How will you spend the Lenten Season?
Lenten Season is a worldwide celebration and many have their unique way on how they will spend or celebrate it.
Some celebrate it with just a simple holiday, staying in their house with their loved ones.
Some will spend a vacation in another city or even faraway places, here in the Philippines some depict or portray Jesus or we call it here as penitensiya or senakulo a traditional act that we inherited during the Spanish era.
Here are also some of the ways on how I spend the said Lenten Holiday Season.
1. Getting together with the family(church service)
- just like I've said, we often stay home and be with our loved ones or our family.
Family is with a group of people, lenten can be a good season to be with our family especially those who are so close to our hearts that we don't see them so often.
2. Fasting
- some observe it through a one-week fasting or the exclusion of eating meat in the meal- this is a belief expressing that we can fast or not tolerate our flesh to eat what it wants.
3. Praying-
- I think this is the most spent act during the Lenten season, and this is one of my favorites.
Praying especially in the early morning when everyone is still asleep and the surroundings are at peace, is just like listening to God.
We hear our prayer, and our thoughts, expressing our true feelings because we are not conscious of our surroundings, and we can also hear Him.
If we pray regularly, we may be familiarized with the way He communicates with us, and it's different for every person. I often pray in the early morning in my favorite place.
4. Reading the Bible-
This one is also my favorite on how will I spend my holy week.
There are always new things every time I read the Bible
Though I already had read it from cover to cover, the mystery of it is, that you will never get bored cause there is new to discover, just like a hidden treasure that you will find every time you dig(read) it.
And it makes me feel good, satisfied, and brave.
5. Writing/Journaling-
This is also my favorite thing to do
Writing/Journaling on what I had read or understood.
I just only write if there is a verse that sticks in my mind and doesn't want to go away especially if it links to another verse then create a conclusion at the end.
I didn't often publish it immediately but it took me weeks to store it in my cellphonote because other ideas would still come up. Until the time that I don't have anything to add or to edit already. That is the time that I will be ready to share with the public.
Each one is different in how we spend the Holy Week Season. I know it will depend on what we believe, how we know Him and how we are sincere to Him. But the most important is our faith and we know Who will we STAND.
