A number of years ago after one of the many times Congress passed some tax reform measures, I decided to take the H & R Block tax course. I'd always done my own taxes, a practice I continue today, and wanted to be up to date with the changes.
The main point the instructor hammered into every student as READ THE FORM. Fully 90% of errors on a tax form resulted in a failure to read the form carefully. Admittedly, many tax forms are not easy to read, much less understand. But most specific instructions are actually listed on the form itself.
In the same way, members who create and host a contest or activity include specific instructions about the operating procedures for their activity--item rating, word or line counts, whether editing may be done after submission, etc.
Basically, everything you need to know about successfully engaging in that activity is contained at the beginning of it. Missing even one rule might result in disqualification, thus wasting all the time you spent on your item. Whereas the IRS might not care if your return is rejected due to an error (though you might face economic penalties), most hosts hate to disqualify anyone who takes time to enter their contest.
This same advice applies to Help and other Information forums. These items contain useful information designed to help members with their unique problems. At the least, reading the header information about a specific forum helps the member select the forum best suited to help satisfy his need for assistance. Posting a question on a specific technical issue in the "Writing.Com General Discussion" only slows a potential answer.
In this hurry up world, taking time to slow down ius actually good medicine. I had a History professor who was fond of saying "If there's no time to do it right the first time, there's always time to do it over."
Help yourself. Take the time to Read The Form, and get things right the first time.

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled:
followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
From the Feedback for "So Much Time; So Little to Do." :
From staiNed : Regarding "Habit Heroes " . My favorite. Help me be accountable for my choices, and I get to what others are during, and get rewarded too.
Thanks for writing in.
From the Newsfeed:
From Dave Ryan : I used to do a lot of "SMALL TALK " and "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " . But lately I've got out of the habit. My current primary cause of brain-strain is "Cards Against Authors" and, after skipping "The Soundtrack of Your Life" this year due to a sudden attack of cortical constipation, I'm preparing for the imminent "Musicology Anthology" which will involve 10 short stories in three months (for me, that's A LOT). And ...
Once upon a time there used to be: .
But it's a bit of a ghost town these days - just tumbleweed everywhere, the incessant sighing of the wind and, now and again, the howl of a lonely coyote somewhere out there in the dark.
There's also:
You are a very busy guy!
From tj wanderlust-words-in-motion : The dark, damp, and cold basement. There are no lights, so you have to take a candle down the creaking, rickety steps. I've never made all the way down, I get a quarter to half way before I see the red, glowing, eyes, all three of them, watching me.
Wait, that was over at the Banana Bar, never mind. Here I like to visit some of the forums and interact.
From Jellyfish :
From Jeremy :
Good plugs, folks.
From Jeffrey Meyer : I like these forums. I also like the Daily Flash challenge--helps me work on being concise. Otherwise... Yeah, I'm pretty much a hermit here, too.
From TheBusmanPoet : Newsfeed and my Portfolio are my favorite places. 😎👍
From Mousethyme : My portfolio, my personal newsfeed, notifications, email and Question of the Day. Just to name my most frequently visited.
From Tannus : My newsfeed and The Question of the day.
