About This Newsletter

"The soul also needs food. Its nourishment is spiritual. It thrives in an environment of charitable words, noble thoughts, loving action, and right values. Its bread is the Word of life. We feed our soul when we read an inspiring book, are in awe over the beauty of nature, listen to soothing music, engage in good conversation, and connect with God in prayer. Take good care of your soul. It makes you alive."

Coming up with a different subject or approach every month that will appeal to every SNL subscriber is a real challenge, and one not easily met, if at all. After three inadequate attempts in the last four weeks, I was left scratching my head in exasperation.

Finding the right spark that will light a fire, I often search for quotes to get started. That in itself is a challenge because there are so many that inspire. But, because we are all unique and view the world differently, and because the right spark seems to elude me at the moment, I thought it appropriate that you, the reader, get involved. So this month I've decided to do something that will hopefully compel you to do so. More about that in a moment.

"The soul, like the body, lives by what it feeds on."
- Josiah Gilbert Holland -

We live in a fast-paced, noisy and increasingly chaotic world. In the midst of all this movement, we still must nourish our bodies to remain strong and healthy. This stands to reason, because without sustenance our bodies fail. But do we stress the same importance on feeding our souls? This kind of nourishment is also necessary. We crave that which will give us a sense of well being and purpose, but we need that which will give us strength to fight the daily chaotic onslaught upon our souls.

And so, I pose a question: What do you do to feed your soul? Some answers will be woefully obvious. If you adhere to a certain belief system, you may attend church or synogogue regularly and/or read the definitive writings that guide you within that system. But this is not the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking for that internal process that allows you to move from one moment to the next with grace, dignity and a sense of peace. And I want you to tell me about it.

Now, you may answer by simply sending feedback at the bottom of the NL page, but I'd prefer you tell me in a short essay. So yes, this is a contest. And as we all know, contests have guidelines and rules.

*Check4* Essays must be 500 words or less (please put word count at the bottom of your essay)

*Check4* Deadline for entries is April 12th (anytime before midnight wdc time)

*Check4* Spelling, grammar and punctuation do count

*Check4* Send your entry to me at windac@writing.com using the item or bitem link

Of course, there are perks too!

*Check4* Each entry will appear as editor's picks in upcoming issues (which hopefully, means you get read and reviewed)

*Check4*And the one I find most compelling and well written will receive a great prize (not sure what just yet)

So, get out your pens, pencils or keyboards and start writing! If you have any questions, give me a jingle.

*Flower1*          Until next time, fight the good fight!          *Flower1*

Dear Wind in My Wings,

I am going over the Spiritual Newsletters from the last few months. I had a baby, so I got behind. In this scary, depressing, cruel and sadistic world, sometimes you just need to gorge yourself on goodness. Thank you for giving me the chance to recharge my Christian/love batteries with your editorials.

Sincerely,
Lotusneko

Interesting newsletter, with some very good points about what it means to be a blessing and how our lives can influence and be influenced by others. I especially like the paragraph in your response that begins... "For me, being a blessing is..."

Thanks for sharing these thoughts with us.

Winda,

A wonderful newsletter and I agree with the position you take. I try to make it a point to smile and take the other's day into consideration. I would like to say I have a 100% achievement rate on this, but alas, I have a belly button as Budroe would say!

This is my second day as a member but my my first comment. I throughly undestood both the need to be a blessing and touch everyine's life you meet and the response that it's a tall order to fill. I didn't take it in a lieral sense, that you can save the whole world yet at the same ime it's true that everyone we meet will not be receptive to our good intentions. It's pain ful to know that The Savior died for Whosoever that would beleive, and yet so many souls are lost everyday despite His payment for our sin debt. Nevertheless, the Word says, don't be weary in well doing, for in due season, if youu faint not, you shall reap.

The mathematics of Heaven are not so difficult to comprehend. If every person sought to be a true reflector of the Giver of Blessings in such measure that just one other person was blessed--everyone would be Blessed every day.

When any one of us feels lacking in our Blessings, it could be for no reason other than the reality that we have not been one. Interesting choice, I say.

No, we cannot be a blessing to everyone. But, we can be the conduit through which our Loving Dad brings His Blessing to someone. And, that is sufficient for me.

In His Care,

Budroe

Thank you for sharing Tehanu Author Icon's comment. She expressed herself well, and I'm sure reflected what others also may have thought. I also enjoyed reading your response. In fact it reminded me of something that happened years ago, and why I think it's important to always smile, especially at a stranger who seems to need one. I decided to share my experience, linked above.

Thanks again for a thoughtful newsletter!
