Creative Ways for Your Hero to Propose Marriage

The hero has been wooing the heroine throughout your romance story. They have had their ups, and downs, and the time has come for him to pop the question. While asking on bended knee is romantic, you want your hero to ask for her hand in marriage in a way that will make your readers sigh with delight. And wish they had met him themselves.

When planning his proposal scene take your character's personalities into consideration. If your characters are quiet people, then write your scene that way. If they are flamboyant, then by all means make their scene wild and crazy. But make it believable to your reader, or you will lose them before she says "I do". Here are some suggestions for a memorable romance story marriage proposal.

A Picnic Lunch
Have your hero pack a romantic lunch in a picnic hamper. Fruit, cheese, bread and wine will all help to enhance this romantic scene. Set the scene in a beautiful park or clearing in the woods to complete the mood. Use everything around them to enhance the romantic feel. Finish their lunch with the engagement ring and proposal.

A Mystery Trail
Your hero can leave a path for his sweetheart to follow. Chose something romantic, like rose petals or candles. A trail from the front door throughout the house, with flowers, chocolates, and champagne left along the path for his sweetie to find. At the end of the trail is where your hero should be waiting, ring in hand.

Restaurant Proposals
Proposing at a fancy restaurant can be a wonderful scene to write. You can have candlelight, music, just about anything your hero's heart desires. Want to make the scene humorous or add more tension to your tale? Have him propose at a chili dog stand. You can go either way, depending on your story or where you want the plot to go.

Holiday Proposals
Holiday time is a popular marriage proposal scene. Many romances have had the hero propose to his love during Valentine's Day, Christmas and New Year celebrations. If this is something you want for your story, be sure to make it unique. Have your hero use Christmas lights to spell out his question. But don't forget the other holidays when planning your romance story's scene. Using one of those holidays could go a long way to making your romance story stick in your reader's mind.

How your hero says "will you marry me" is as important as him actually saying it. Really think about how you want your reader to view the hero and plan his asking accordingly. Do this and you will write a proposal scene that will make your readers swoon.

Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!
