Letter from the editor

Since I'm guest editor this week, I didn't think you'd mind if I continued on with the next chaper of "Writing The Wave". So here goes-

Chapter 9

Becalmed

Jump-Start a Stalled Work in Progress

Medicine Wheel
** Image ID #1298484 Unavailable **

You will execute the first 4 steps in rapid succession- so set your timer for 2 minutes per step.

1 In your notebook, write down a scene or image that is triggered in your imagination by the idea of spirit or intuition.

2 In your notebook, write down a scene or image that is triggered in your imagination by the idea of intellect, that which is of the mind.

3 In your notebook, write down a scene or image that is triggered in your imagination by the idea of substance, the material (that which is opposite of the spiritual.

4 In your notebook, write down a scene or image that is triggered in your imagination by the idea of emotion (as opposed to intellect).

Don't continue on until you have completed Step 4!

this step involves no writing, so you won't need to set your timer-

5 Glancing at the medicine wheel above and also at the four scenes you've just written, choose which pair you'd like to work with.

Set your timer for 20 minutes

6 In your notebook, bring those two scenes together in another piece of writing. Keep in mid that north-south movement involves transformation and east-west movement involves understanding.

Don't continue on until you have completed Step 6!

7 Locate a piece of writing you've started but haven't finished.

8 Now select the two compass points that you didn't use for Step 6.

Set your timer for 2 minutes

9 Write a scene or image for the first compass diresction that involves characters or imagery from your "stalled" writing.

10 Bring the two scenes of step 9 togerther in such a way that they continue the piece of writing you selected for step 7

Where you able to continue your unfinished work? I hope so. In the book there are two more wheels represented, a North American Medicine Wheel and an Imago Wheel, designed by the author Elizabeth Ayres. Using these two wheels, walk back through steps 1 thru 10 using the time parameters suggested.

On the North American Medicine Wheel the movement is around, not across. At step 5 you would choose side by side, not across from each other.
North- Wisdom
East- Illumination
South- Innocence
West- Death, Rebith, the Sacred Dream

On the Imago Wheel, you get to do whatever you want. You can put "imagination" together with "bliss" or you can pair it with "memory".
North- Imagination
East- Bliss
South- Memory
West- Passion

You've just finishe the Medicine Wheel part of this chapter, next newsletter from me will focus on using Music to help finish a stalled piece of work.

Until next time...
Mandik
