N0TICING NEWBIES NEWSLETTER
Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com. There are many things to do and learn. Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.
Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, lyrics, short stories, essays, campfires, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item (your writing) helps to bring you more rates and reviews by fellow members and the general public...of course depending on how much exposure you want your item to have. Some writers like to keep their work private. When your work does receive exposure, it helps bring more member interaction, which will give you the opportunity to build new friendships. Remember, it is a two-way street...try to make an effort to reciprocate reviews.
"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Hello Newbies,
What to write. I suppose I can share with you my writing reality, which is sporadic and last minute at best, not the ideal writing habits, but it works for my hectic schedule of raising two young girls and going to school. I find pockets of time to write, whether it is in the morning or before bed, I fit it in.
Post-its! What would I do without the wonderful bright-yellow paper stick-ums! I keep a pad in my bedside table, in my car, you name it! The most important ritual to have as a writer, keep paper and pen at hand, so when your creative juices start flowing you can immediately write down that great story idea, paragraph or verse.
I could not FUNCTION without my laptop! Besides writing my ideas on post-it notes or the occasional napkin, back of a deposit slip, etc., my computer is never far from my fingertips. As I am writing this, I have to write a note for myself to remember to bring a handheld tape recorder for my car! It is amazing how my mind flows with ideas while I am driving and of course I try to write while steering the car, I'm lucky I have not been in an accident, knock on wood.
I have read many stories on a variety of writing rituals which sets the writer up to write, and I can't say that I need to clean off an area of desk or table to write, or I need to clean my house in order to have clarity. But, I think that if a writer has to have a certain routine in order to write, than do it! Whatever works. Sometimes I need quiet to think and then other times, I can write with the television on and my girls joking around in the background, it all depends on the day.
So, there you have it, a small part of my writing world as of late, which will change according to my schedule, my moods...I figure, it's okay to be flexible and not beat myself up because I haven't written an hour each day. Of course, there is an exception when it comes to writing deadlines, you have to dedicate yourself to completion. But, these days, I give myself permission to not be perfect...I can skip a day or two of writing, but I always come home to the word.
Now, just because my writing schedule works for me, doesn't mean it will work for you. All writers must figure out their niche in the writing world, and you will, just stay focused. Happy writing!
"You ask me why I do not write something....I think one's feelings waste themselves in words, they ought all to be distilled into actions and into actions which bring results."
~ Florence Nightingale
I love reading about how other people write and their rituals. The following links are provided by The Writer Magazine, which gives some great insight into authors' writing styles:

It would be great if newbie contest winners were posted in here. I spend lots of time, clicking from contest to contest each week to read winners. If you do post them, but haven't had any the past couple of weeks, I appolagize.
Thanks for the great info in each news letter.
