Letter from the editor

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just a few days ago we all said goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008. I don't know about you, but I can't believe how quickly this year went by! I thought I had a lot more time to fulfill all of the New Year's Resolutions I made at the beginning of last year, but now the year is over and I can't even remember what those resolutions were, let alone whether or not I accomplished any of them or not! *Laugh*

So this year I have a new plan to help me do better with New Year's Resolutions. And I'll share that plan with you, my dear readers, in the hope that it may help you as well!

1. I will write all of my 2008 Resolutions down and store them in a safe place so that if I forget them, I will have them in writing and can refer to them. Hmmm, now that I think that through, I realize that this will require remembering where I stored the list, which I guess naturally leads to the next step in my plan for my 2008 New Year's Resolutions ...

2. I will tell someone else where I stored my 2008 New Year's Resolutions so that if I forget where I put the list, that person can direct me to their location ... but as an added burden, now I will have to remember WHO I tell where my Resolution list is stored, and then they will also have to remember where it is. So perhaps I should tell several young people with good memories where my list is, and hope that one of them remembers its location (and that I remember who I told). Or maybe I should just tack the list onto the bulletin board over my desk ... which leads to 2008 New Year's Resolution #1: clean off the bulletin board over my desk to make room for my 2008 New Year's Resolutions list.

3. ACK! I am getting ahead of myself. Before I start the actual, specific list itself, I want to make sure that my list of 2008 New Year's Resolutions is an easy one, so that if I accomplish some of them I will feel good about myself, instead of feeling guilty about not getting any of them done. So, for instance, I will not include things like "lose 50 pounds by the end of 2008." Instead I'll list something like "remember to vote in the November 2008 Presidential election." That will be an easy one because every time I turn on the television, some nice candidate or advertisement will help remind me to vote. In the meantime I'll just have to figure out which of those idiots for vote for ... *Laugh*

4. Shoot, all that talk about politics made me lose my train of thought ... oh yes, my 2008 New Year's Resolutions. In addition to making my Resolutions easy ones to accomplish, I will also choose things to include on the list that I am already doing, so as not to burden myself with too many new things on my already very busy schedule. So, for instance, instead of resolving to "take a hot air balloon ride sometime in 2008," I'll list something I already plan to do, like "make sure to watch American Idol when the new season begins in a few weeks."

5. Which leads to the last part of my plan ... make sure that my 2008 New Year's Resolutions are fun and funny, because after all, laughter makes the world go 'round, and IS the best medicine. So I may have to delete that earlier resolution about voting in November, because politics is neither fun or funny! Unless one watches election coverage on Comedy Central (Indecision 2008) for the next several months because that IS fun and funny!

Well I hope this list has helped you all with your own 2008 New Year's Resolutions! And if it hasn't, how about sending me some comments about what helps you with keeping your resolutions for the New Year. Or is it better not to make any resolutions at all? I'd love to hear from many of you, and will include your comments my Comedy Newsletter next week. So I hope to hear from loads of y'all! *Bigsmile*

Until then, keep laughing, and Happy New Year! *Bigsmile*

Enjoyed this! Um, do you still have the cat sweats?!

Um, in a word, NO! *Laugh* Should I have kept them and then re-gifted them to you?

Great ideas for comedy writing about the Christmas season. I especially appreciate the part of unusual gifts. My wife's dad is an eccentric person, a widower, who gives us very strange gifts. He once gave us a corner table with a glass top and underneath the glass was a huge blue, gawdy-looking clock. It's interesting, you never know what to expect from him. It's never the typical gift.
Thanks for the Christmas 'inspirations.'
Larry

Glad you enjoyed it Larry! And thanks for sharing about your father-in-law the eccentric -- at least he keeps you guessing! *Bigsmile*

Hey Sophy,
This is another doozy *Delight* My partner had to ask me what I was laughing at, and some how "gifts" just didn't translate, so I had to read it out... Oh, you've just got to love the holidays for all those top notch comedy capers. Thanks again,
