Romantic Holidays

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

I love the holidays. I love the way they sound, the way they smell, the way they make me feel all tingly inside. But more importantly, I love the way they make my emotions come to life!

Romance and holidays go hand in hand. What romance reader isn't brought to tears by a Christmas proposal, or made to laugh out loud at a Thanksgiving dinner with a hero/heroine's family that goes awry?

The upcoming holiday season reminded me that holiday romances are some of my favorite to read. Not just the Thanksgiving/Christmas ones, but all of the holidays.

The best suggestion I can give to a writer wanting to write a holiday romance is to pick a holiday you love to celebrate. Nothing kills a romance faster than a writer who writes about something they hate.

Be sure to research your holiday so you know the kinds of traditions associated with your selection. That will help the story come to life for the reader.

Another idea is to use your own holiday traditions and celebrations in your book. You don't have to use real names or events, but I'm sure most people have favorite holiday memories. And what better way to share them than to turn them into a heartwarming romance.

It really can be the most wonderful time of the year...for you and your reader!

Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!
