About This Newsletter

When you look at your life, is it everything you want it to be? Do you think you have a destiny, and are you fulfilling it? This week's Spiritual Newsletter asks a lot of questions... but the answers are probably up to you, the reader.

Letter from the editor

What do you want out of life? Do you have a dream you're working towards? What would you like to be doing in, say, five years' time? Do you just take one day at the time, trying to survive, or do you have goals and ambitions?

Life can be tough on our dreams. When we are children, we are sent to school. There are grades and exams and maybe we do well, or maybe we don't do as well as we would have liked. At a young age, we are asked what we want to do when we graduate. For some people it's an easy choice. Others don't have a clue.

Some people end up working in the field of their choice. Some end up with a career they never intended - it just happened, it's a job and it pays the bills. Lucky people enjoy what they're doing, many other people end up bored and discouraged, but have to stick it out anyway.

You end up working for most of your life, hoping that there will be a few years afterwards in which you can just enjoy yourself. However, by that time physical problems might set in and for many their pension is only barely enough to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

For a lot of people, this is life. You just get on with it. It is what it is. Others look at this picture and wish it could be different, but they're unsure of what can be done about it. It's the way the system works.

The question is... is this life? If you believe in a higher Being, have you ever wondered if this is what He/She wanted for you, or if perhaps you're meant to be doing something else with the time you have on this planet. If you don't believe in a higher Being, but do believe in spiritual growth, do you think you're reaching your potential?

Life is short. It may seem like it's a long time, but it isn't. Especially when you leave your teenage years behind, it seems to fly by. Still, being stuck in a career you don't really enjoy for some 40 years or more is not very pleasant. I think it doesn't help that what is called a career in modern society has changed somewhat. There used to be more skilled trades around, professions in which you crafted something of value and could walk away with the satisfaction and pride of having created something beautiful, helpful, and lasting. Telephone sales, to use an example here, just isn't the same.

If you have a dream, what is holding you back? Is it the mortgage, having to put food on the table and the need to keep on top of the bills? Is it the fear of losing everything, especially in these tough economic times?

Oddly enough, these economic times might help you fulfill your dreams. If you are amongst those who sadly lost their jobs, now is the time to look at what you really want to do. There may be opportunities out there to retrain, or to get the experience of a voluntary position, possibly even abroad. If you are lucky to be secure in your job, but it's not quite what you want to do, it never hurts to look into courses and opportunities around you. Even something like a home study course can make a difference, or an arts program, or whatever is calling you.

It's not easy being stuck in the system, but it doesn't mean we have to turn into machines, plodding away until we drop. I'd like to think that when we look back at our lives, we can smile at having fulfilled at least some of our dreams and ambitions. I still believe that each of us was made for a purpose, and that each of us has some sort of destiny. I haven't quite figured out my purpose yet, but I'm pretty certain that it doesn't involve the whole "just getting on with it" thing. I'd like to think it's more meaningful than that.

So, whilst I try to figure it out... what's yours? And what are you doing about it?

unicornstar Author Icon - I see Him.
The day is done, the fading sun
Sinks low into the sea
There's a golden glow below
Spreading dotted stars that shine
Now something stirs within
And it's yours and it's mine.

Running over sand
Collecting smooth shells in our hands
Feeling warm wind in our hair
There is much beauty to share

How then can they say..
God is far away
He doesn't exist
Wouldn't matter much today.
For I see him every time
A wave breaks in the tide
I see him in every way
In the gifts that he provides.

Every wondrous creature
With feathers or fins
Every ounce of creation
That the changing seasons bring

He's right there and close,
So open your eyes
God has always been there,
God never hides.

unicornstar.

Miami Author Icon - Very good. Thanks! God Blesses!

Thank you so very much *Smile*.

Zeke Author Icon - Another big thing that makes us human is imagination.

Yes, I guess it does *Smile*. I do think other creatures have imagination as well, though. When I see puppies playing with the other, or my cats playing games with a piece of string, it reminds me of children and their games. I'm 100 percent certain my cats know a piece of string is a piece of string, and a toy mouse is just that - a toy. They have fun playing "make believe".

It is very possible that humans have a greater imagination than other beings. I can't tell for certain, of course. I don't know what goes on in the mind of other beings... but I do feel they definitely have some.

That's just my opinion, mind *Smile*. And I share it not to contradict you, just pondering out loud.
