A Bad Boy Hero

Bad boys, bad boys,
What you gonna do?
What you gonna do
when they come for you?
~Theme to COPS

What is it about a bad boy hero that makes the heroine, and reader, weak in the knees? Could it be his devil-may-care attitude? His rugged good looks? Or maybe the hint of danger he seems to be bathed in?

Or maybe it's all of the above and then some?

The bad boy hero is one of the funnest heroes to write, in my opinion. Here is a man who isn't afraid of danger, willing to do whatever it takes to win the fight. And yet, the thought of a serious romance can leave him gasping for air like a drowning man.

But just what is a bad boy hero?

He is tough, ready for the battle. He can be gentle when the moment demands it. He is dangerous and kind, and a loaner who tends to avoid people and love. But most of all, he's complex. In all honesty, he can be anything you, the writer, wants him to be. But he must be at least thought of as bad in someway, shape, or form. Otherwise, where's the fun in writing him??

So go on, write about those dangerous, loner heroes. Come on, you know you want too. And who knows, maybe you'll take a bigger chance and write about a bad girl for the nice hero to fall in love with??

Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!
