To Be or Not to Be?

As a Newbie, you might be here for one of several reasons. Perhaps you long to be part of a community that holds the same interest as you. Maybe you strive to improve on your writing skills. You might be here because you would like your items critiqued. Or possibly, you are searching for inspiration. And I'm sure there are other reasons members have joined this wonderful site also. No matter what your reason is, welcome to this community. You will find members and staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. *Smile*

Many writers consider themselves writers because they write. True enough! Other writers feel they are not genuine writers unless they have been published. I used to think the latter of the two, but have changed my thoughts about this over the past years. A few examples are: If you like to read, you are a reader. If you enjoy collecting rocks, you are a rock collecter. While both of these examples take skill (ability to read / some knowledge of rocks), you do not need to be famous to carry these titles. Do you enjoy writing? Then you are a writer.

What are your goals, if any? Would you like to be a published writer? Or are you happy to write for yourself and perhaps your family and friends? Are you happy to be self-published? Are you mostly interested in blogging?

There are no set rules here stating you need to be anything. You are here because you choose to be and why you choose to be, is up to you.

Best of luck in your journey! *Smile*

Have a wonderful week!!!

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,
Cubby ")

And Now For Our Featured Newbies!

Giron's Crucible Open in new Window. [E]
Sir Maxwell travels to slay the dragon Giron...or is there more to this than there seems?
by kruckster Author Icon

Excerpt: Sir Maxwell of Guen approached what he knew to be the dragon's nest tentatively. Having been lead through the smoldering wastes of the Agrovinian countryside just one day earlier, he knew what kinds of powers this dragon possessed. His bright, silver armor glistened in the noon sun, and his long, blonde hair blew with the wind, dancing about him as he advanced through the pristine woodlands that surrounded the well known dragon's lair.

Hadley Open in new Window. [E]
The story of a girl, through all else, finds who she is and where she belongs.
by Sarah Green Author Icon

Excerpt: On her twelfth birthday her mother sat her down along with her father to tell her that she had been adopted. Hadley knew she was different, but she hadn't thought she was that different. She looked at her mother, or the person she took to be her mother, with tears in her eyes. She wanted to scream at them, cry, and tell them that they had it wrong. But she knew they hadn't.

Excerpt:
Dear ANGEL,

I’m doing okay. Right now I’m focusing on exams. My older sister’s boyfriend hates me. I hate him too actually.
I don’t know what I want to do after high school.

[-A.0-]

I clicked SEND and leaned back in my chair with a sigh.

ANGEL was a teenage adviser, part of the ANGELS program at school. ANGELS stay within the grade and are distributed at random. Your ANGEL stays the same throughout the school term and you are not allowed to reveal your identity until graduation.

Off to Never Never Land Open in new Window. [13+]
Charlie is haunted by the evil and must confront it or let it consume him.
by ScaryMary Author Icon

Excerpt: There he was now, outside where the evil waited for him. Panic began to set in as he frantically searched his pocket for the MP3 player. The smooth hard surface met his fingers and he pulled it out and began to run his finger around, accessing the menu and then the music. He tuned it to Metallica. The list displayed the same song over and over “Enter Sandman”. Quickly, he pushed the ear buds into his ears then cranked up the music, all the while nervously glancing around.

“Say your prayers little one

Don't forget, my son

To include everyone”

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
This fable-like journey of mysticism, dreams, and courage, follows a young man's path while searching for a hidden treasure. On the way, he learns the simple things in life are the most valuable. Follow your dreams and allow the universe to help you find your way. This novel is filled with words of wisdom and hope, showing us that the real treasure is our journey in life and lives within us. I listened to this story on Audio CDs and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. *Smile*
