How many times can you say blood in a story without becoming redundant? Not too many. So I thought I'd give you a few alternatives to the word blood and its descriptions.

Excerpt: Oh my, God," he said, when he saw a woman in a long summer dress walking along the shoulder on his side of the road, no more than fifty yards in front of him. Beauregard slowed down; steering toward the center of the narrow two-lane road, but the woman lurched towards the middle. The front bumper of the truck hit the woman sending her into the air and off to the side of the road.
Excerpt: Within the dark, green-veiled arms of the forest, she hid in her secret place. With her thick, brown hair and large, brown eyes, she bore more than a passing resemblance to her sister.
Excerpt: The school gym, full of boisterous fifth and sixth graders, was not only noisy, but hot this Friday evening, the night before Halloween. Sagging streamers of orange and black crepe paper hung across the gym, hinged cutouts of skeletons, ghosts and witches adorned the cork-covered walls, and the movable bleachers were shoved up against the walls.
Excerpt: Saturday was chocolate day. Bradley savoured his final morsel; chocolate dinosaurs this week, Mum had chosen well. He was in the tree house with the Team: Zoltan, a green rubber alien with tentacles and a suction pad; Timmy, a plastic lion dressed in blue; and Tantor, a small white teddy bear with a tartan bow tie.
Excerpt: "Tigers. I'm afraid of tigers. I know it's ridiculous, but that's it. I have this recurring dream. I'm walking down the street, and suddenly there he is, all gold and black with fiery eyes. I start to run, and the tiger pounces. There is blinding pain and I wake up screaming.

Excerpt: The premise: Your character has to be missing one of their senses, he/she is either deaf, blind, or mute, if you are very creative, all three. That means that your character cannot see the 'bad' thing coming, or hear it coming, or scream for help. Their missing 'sense' is up to you, but they have to be missing at least one of the three.

Excerpt: It wasn't meant to be this way, as I look back at that night.
Excerpt: Dark spawn, denizen of the deep, / With rotting face, dripping green slime,
Excerpt: "Mad dog running through the night, / His twisted shadow greets the fog. / Creatures leave the woodland path / And frogs grow silent in the bog."
Excerpt: O'er moonlit graves and wrought iron fence it slithers dark and dreary, / seeking those who dare to roam this realm so quiet and leery.
