Changes to Your Port, etc.
We truly appreciate all of you who take time to read the newsletters. We hope to answer a small fraction of the questions we see around the site. Writing.Com is a huge site, with much to learn. The more you learn the more fun it is.
Don't hesitate to ask if you can't figure it out.
You've created your first message forum, but it doesn't show on the list. Why not?
You've made a message forum but it doesn't show on the listing, what's wrong?
You have to post at least one message for it to show. Make it a welcome message to your posters. You have do the same with books, blogs, contests.
I created an item, but it isn't on the public lists. Why?
If you forget to place a rate on the Content and Intro when creating any item, you may not see it. The system will make the assumption the intro is not E rated and those with their filters set to not view NON-E items, will not find it. Those that are set to view everything, will. If it is an E-item, you'll lose a lot of readers.
*** Portfolio Organization System (POS) ***
You can quickly move items from one folder to another
You discovered folders and now want to place your work inside but can't figure out how to do this.
Item number
Folder
Rated: E
box and position number
You'll find this on the left side of your portfolio. Check the box on each item you want to move into one folder, then scroll down until you come to instructions for various actions. Open 'Folder Management Utility' and choose the folder you've already created and named. It will be in the list. Click 'Move items to folder' and it's done.
You can control the (DFO) Default Folder Order of your items.
If you want that older item with the ribbon to be first instead of in 'created date' order, you can change its position.
You can determine the order you want your items to show on the front page of your port by choosing the position number. The highest number will be at the top of the list. You can change the position order anytime by changing the number. Don't forget to check the little box on the left of each item, then scroll down and click Default Folder Order. If you fail to check the little box, that item won't be included in the change.
** This action will NOT be confirmed and can NOT be undone! **
(Which means: This will be permanent until you REDO it again.)
You'll see this statement before you change these things. It sounds intimidating but don't worry. It just means the changes you choose are safe. You can change them anytime you want to.
You can quickly set the access restrictions on multiple items
You can change member access to each item too. Make it public, private, or for a certain group. Click the little box again and move over to the menu underneath the item.
Tools: View (nw) - Edit (fs/Q) - Delete - Reviews - Stats - RCS
Genre(s): Family :: Children's :: Entertainment
Access menu box.
Make your choice, scroll down to
Access Management Utility (AMU), and complete the editing.
Exploring is fun and useful. Open and read everything.

Thank you very, very much for featuring "Binding" here in this newsletter. It was such a pleasant surprise to come back here after being occupied for several days, and then see that my piece has been featured.
Again, thank you very much for featuring my piece. It is very much appreciated
You're very welcome, Kamylle! It was a pleasure to highlight your work.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I had to look the word redundant up the first time I read it in a review! I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who did not understand all the terminology. Great example on 'Show, don't tell'!

At least you can look up 'redundant' in the dictionary, Cubby. It's a real word. but what do we do with 'telling', 'show', and 'wordy'? We ask! lol
