About This Newsletter

We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward, they're called dreams. - Jeremy Irons

We do not remember days; we remember moments. - Cesare Pavese

Pleasure is the flower that passes; remembrance, the lasting perfume. ~ Jean de Boufflers

Memories are the treasures that we keep locked deep within the storehouse of our souls, to keep our hearts warm when we are lonely. - Becky Aligada

Someday many years from now
We'll sit beside the candles glow
Exchanging tales about our past
And laughing as the memories flow
And when that distant day arrives
I know it will be understood
That friendship is the key to live
And we were friends and it was good. - Eileen Hehl

Letter from the editor

Moments and little things that are special and unique to you and your significant other. Those times when one or the other can say but a word or two and you both stop, and smile. Or a phrase that gains significance, where one says something, and the other finishes the line or always responds in the same way. The words that can be applied in numerous situations that always produce a smile, end an arguement or result in a knowing look that only the two of you can share, and that are almost impossible to explain to someone else without sounding patently rediculous. You know what I'm talking about, pretty much every couple has them, as do parents and kids, best friends, etc.

My hubby and I have 'stick' and it is special enough to us that that word is the word engraved inside my wedding ring. It started out as a stick, literally, and grew and morphed into the various meanings you might conjure up and to what it means to us today.

My hubby's name to the grandkids is Grampaken...all one word because one grand child had trouble reading a Christmas gift tag where the words were all squished together. He asked, "Who's GramPAken (accent on PA) It 'stuck' (there we go again) and now all the kids call him Grampaken.

There are just little things, little moments, but they grow and gain more significance as time goes by. They become real entities that are loved and treasured. They are also a little treat you can give your characters. Something like this can add depth and nuance to your characters. It gives them a sense of unity and togetherness. It makes them seem real and alive. As a relationship grows, so does that catch-phrase and over time gains multiple layers and can be used in numerous occations to further the relationships, whether husband and wife, mother and child or grandfather and grandson. It works with any relationship....consider semper fi!

Ask & Answer

princesrea says:I thought this was a lovely newsletter, written from the heart with sincerity and realism. I enjoyed this and it's very rare that i actually finish reading a full newsletter because i find them quite tedious, that's why i had to comment.

Thanks for the delightful insight and inspiration that if i want to write teen fiction it isn't so difficult to find examples in life, or remember how i felt a few years ago.

Well, I'm glad you liked this one and I wonder why you find many of them tedious, as we editors spend an aweful lot of time working on them. I'd be curious as to if you have some ideas on what you'd like to see in them...
