Grabbing the Bull by the Horns

Some of my readers may remember that within the last year, I've taken up running. It's been an arduous, but overall rewarding, journey. By the end of 2010, I was running 3 miles about two or three times per week. About the same time, I heard about this event called Warrior Dash. It's a 3.5 mile run/obstacle course, with crazy obstacles like climbing a net of ropes, hopping over junk cars and wading through mud-pits. The event is held all over the world, and there was going to be one near me in 2011. I just had to sign up!

Now that the event is here, I'm nervous, but I don't regret signing up.

It reminded me of one of my first event experiences on Writing.Com, actually. It was called the Writing Decathlon, a contest consisting of 10 events spread out over several weeks. As soon as I saw that one, I just had to join. I was gifted the Upgraded Membership required to hold a book item for the event (and I've never gone back to Basic since. Seriously, the benefits of an upgrade are incredible! Check 'em out - http://www.writing.com/main/handler/item_id/688627-Compare-Free-and-Paid-Members...), I signed up, and I never looked back!

The contest was intense and a lot of work. At times, I doubted myself and the caliber of my writing skills, but I kept with it. I didn't win; at least I'm pretty sure I didn't. To be perfectly honest, I don't remember how I placed! I do remember the fun I had competing and participating in the event!

I know the same thing will happen with the Warrior Dash. I doubt myself now (the jumping over fire part has me particularly worried at the moment), but in the end, I'll be left with great memories. I have a head-band I wear while running that says, "The journey is the reward." It's so true, don't you think?

Competing and participating can be so rewarding! I highly recommend it!

Don't let a little fear or trepidation keep you from enjoying the experience! Find a contest or an activity on Writing.Com and immerse yourself within it. I dare you! *Bigsmile*

Always keep on writing!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (April 20, 2011)Open in new Window.), discussed Interactive Stories.

Well, my top favorite interactives are my own. However, "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. by writers namelessone and carknex is one I'm always coming back to.
PS. Those two are strict about what is added to it, as they are trying to honor the one who originally made it. I would know; they deleted a few of my additions, because I didn't ask for permission. *Bigsmile*
