All that I see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
Edgar Alan Poe

"If there were no mystery left to explore life would get rather dull, wouldn't it?"
Sidney Buchman

A mystery is an answer in search of a question; knowing what's been done and journey to discovering the how and why of it. It deals with something unknown to the reader, which the writer reveals in bits and pieces with both subtle and overt clues, drawing the reader into the puzzle. Welcome to this week's edition of the WDC Mystery Newletter, where we enter and explore the puzzle for ourselves and our readers.

Letter from the editor

Greetings, fellow sleuths ~ as you know cozy mysteries have become quite popular, and there are a myriad of themes from which to pick. Cozies are enjoyable entertainment with great plots. Most of them are series so you find yourself relating to the reoccurring cast of characters. If you are an animal lover, you will find a long list of cozy mysteries that will interest you. Below are just a few.

Many cozy mysteries take place in the store the main character owns. So it is only appropriate that we start our list with a series that takes place in a pet store. Barbara Block is the author of a series called Robin Light Mystery Series where the pet store owner always seems to get involved with murder.

Veterinarians get into the picture also in a cozy series by Lydia Adamson. This series is called the Dr. Dierdre Quinn Nightingale Series and Dr. Quinn is a veterinarian who solves crime on the side.

Holly Winter is a dog trainer and writer for the Dog's Life Magazine in a series by Susan Conant called the Holly Winter Mystery Series.

An interesting cozy mystery series titled Animal Instinct Mystery Series was written by Gabriella Herkert who used a real legal case as the foundation for her first book in this series. The subject case was about a cat that was left a fortune in a will.

There are cozy mysteries that deal specifically with one kind of animal - often cats and dogs (Lillian Jackson Braun), or birds, but consider a horse or goat or 'pet' rat you may know*Wink*

If you know some cool animals (be they pets or other kindred), consider seeing the world as a puzzle through their eyes. What is it they perceive when they see you and human antics. When they ask (in dog or cat or snake language) 'what if' or better yet, 'why not' ? The answers can lead to some fun creative sleuthing.*Thumbsup*
