When someone told me that I can do anything if I try hard enough, I came up with plenty of examples to prove he was wrong. However, that doesn't mean I don't have potential. We all do.
This week's Spiritual Newsletter is about potential and why it's always worth to try something new.

First of all, to those of you who took part in the National Novel Writing Month, well done! Have you recovered yet? Did you enjoy it? I hope so! I've taken part two years in a row and I loved it. It's a clear example of what we can accomplish when we put our minds it.
Even if you didn't finish, you will likely have written something, and those words can blossom into something else, something beautiful. You never know where it will lead. And that is what this week's Spiritual Newsletter is all about - potential.
A friend said to me the other night that I can do anything if I try hard enough. I told him that he was incorrect. When I was younger, I wanted to join the air force to be a pilot. I couldn't, because I was an inch too short. It wouldn't have mattered how hard I tried, because I couldn't gain that extra inch through sheer willpower. In hindsight I am happy enough that that particular career path didn't work out, because I later joined the police force and had a wonderful time there.
I also can't swim. I had lessons for three years when I was in school. We tried everything, from different techniques to me jumping in because they assured me I'd surface again and would definitely float. Unfortunately, they had to fish me out in the end because I was great at sinking and a complete failure at swimming.
Even my friend admits that I can't dance and my singing, much as I love it, can even scare the cats away. "You can do anything if you try hard enough" is a sweet enough saying, however, it isn't correct.
That doesn't mean that we don't have potential. If there's anything I've learned this past year it's that if you want to do something, it's worth a try, even if you may not succeed in the end. It's especially worth a go if the only thing holding you back is fear, or a lack of confidence.
In a previous newsletter I mentioned how nervous I was before doing a radio show. I never thought I'd be able to do it. I thought I might not have anything to say, that I would sound silly, but then I reckoned that if I didn't do it I'd probably never get another opportunity, so I had a go. As courage goes, doing a radio show is not that brave, but for me it was a frightening step to take. I loved it. I've done it a couple more times since and will likely be on again in January.
I also dreaded going back to University at the age of 37. What if I couldn't do it? What if after all those years of wanting to I'd discover that, actually, I haven't got the brains for it? What if I had left it too long? I can't offer you a positive outcome there just yet, as I only started at the beginning of October. And I am struggling with the academic essays. I love the material, though, and I'll keep working on getting those essays right. I'll keep trying. If I don't try, I will never know.
It's probably too early to talk about plans and resolutions for the New Year and besides, it's not the only time of the year to try something new. It can give a person that feeling of a new year, a fresh start, but a new and exciting project can start at any day and at any time.
This last year I've tried to encourage you, my readers, to go for what you want to do in life and to not allow anything to hold you back, so one of my resolutions can be to stop going on about it before I bore you all into cancelling this newsletter. I do hope that perhaps my words on the topic have inspired some of you to take those first steps.
After all, I am nobody special. I am a distinctly average person and a distinctly average writer. If I can get some of my work out there, so can you. I have seen the talent on this site and a lot of you are far more talented than I could ever dream of being. If you receive positive reviews, you have potential. Keep on writing, keep on trying, nurture that talent and get it out to other readers.
And if an opportunity offers itself, and you're too afraid to accept it, please don't dismiss it straight away. What's the worst that can happen? What's the best that can happen is a better question.
Don't be afraid to fail. We all fail on occasion. A lot of the time we'll find that we do better than we'd imagined and the encouragement that gives is a wonderful feeling. It can only happen if we try...

scarlett_o_h - Wonderful, thought-provoking newsletter. I feel much as you do about being too much of a thinker. I think I'd like to try being a duck. After all they can swim, walk (waddle) and fly and don't need an excuse to be quackers.
Good choice! . Especially the excuse to be quackers. Thanks so much for your kind words!

subatomical - What animal do I choose to be? Hmm! I don't know if I want to call it and animal, but I wish to be that being that can use the brain's potential a 100% (as opposed to humans who use only 5% of their brain's potential, as they say).
Then you are! I'd heard about the "humans only use a small percentage of their brain" thing as well. I looked into it and it appears to be a myth. Apparently brain scans show that we regularly use all of the brain. At some times some parts are more active than others, but no part of the brain is known to be completely unused or unnecessary! Quite cool, I thought!

- If I could be an animal, I would be a chipmunk.
These creatures stuff their cheeks with food and live in a sort of state of bliss, to look at them, most of the time.
What would you be Kittiara?
Aww I love chipmunks! I've always said I'd love to be a cat, but feral cats can have a tough time and for cats who live with humans, it all depends on the owners. Some are not nice to cats at all . So, I am now leaning towards the sloth!

I Want To Walk With You
I want to walk with you
I want to talk with you
I want to hold your hand
I want to feel your warm embrace
My feet wants to walk the Streets Of Gold
My heart belongs to you
Body and Soul
Forgive me Father
I have sinned
Sometimes I say and do
Things I should not
Think of things I shouldn't
Yet your still on my mind
Deep inside I know you
Love me. You don't walk away
Or leave me alone
I want to walk with you
I need you by my side
To protect me and guide me
Every step of the way
To wipe my every tear
I want to walk with you
