Happy New Year 2012
It’s that time of year again,
When we sit down to make a new writing plan,
When we look at last year’s successes and failures,
When we sit word count goals,
When we look at last year’s plots and characters,
Decide how to rewrite their stories and lives.
It’s that time of year again,
Time to kick our science fiction and fantasy plots
Into high gear.

A New Year is a mixed blessing. It is time to look at the accomplishments and failure of the preceding twelve months. I purposely put accomplishments first in the last paragraph because we usually look at our failures before we look at our successes (accomplishments) and pat ourselves on the back.
As writers, we have to know why one story is a success and another remains unpublished or in eternal rewrite. The first step to making a story a success is having something to compare it to and to do this we have to know why a publisher accepts one story for publication or rewriting and another does not. Therefore, we have to analyze our success and then our failures.
While we often learn more from our failures then our successes, we have to know why something failed. In order to know why one article or story failed we have to know why a similar article succeeded so that we have a comparison. Sometimes a written item fails because of internal mechanics of the item and at other times it is operator error i.e. is there something about ourselves we need to change.
It is a New Year and time to make new resolutions. It is time to look at last year’s successes and failures, so that we can determine where we want our writing to go this year. It is also time to start something new such as a story, poem, journal, characters, science fiction or fantasy plot. Write on in 2012.

BIG BAD WOLF Feeling Thankful writes: I prefer wolves in my stories, though I will write about others. Of course, if you have any questions about anthros, call me.
chameleon666 writes: None so far, but it would be cool to write one!
atwhatcost writes: I never thought of my characters as antrhos before. I just thought they were walking, talking, always hungry teddy bears. They'll be thrilled. They keep thinking that the bear part should give them a little tough-guy credentials, but it doesn't. "Anthros." Good word. ;)
Otakon writes: I developed this race for a story of mine a while back. They were created by another species to act as couriers and messengers. What do you all think?

bertiebrite hoping for peace writes: Please tell me what an "antro" is?
Prosperous Snow celebrating I think “antro” is a misspelling, it should be “anthro” and refers to an animal or sentient creature with human qualities.
