Victory!
what to do once you've won
This week I passed my first online course in preparation for my new career. It was such a huge victory for me that it made me wonder, What should you do once you win?
Winning a contest on Writing.Com feels awesome, and it's in part because it is fellow writers choosing your work as among the best that was submitted. It feels great to get recognition from your peers, doesn't it? (This is why reviewing is also such a huge part of this great site! Not only are we getting valuable feedback on our writing, but it's coming from other writers who are in a position to offer great advice!)
So what should you do once you've won?
Brag! Okay, sort of kidding about this one, but who wouldn't want to brag just a little? Add a note to your signature, handle, billboard, etc., letting your WDC peers know you've won! When possible, include a link to the contest in these places and in the item itself so others can check it out (and it's a great way to say thanks to the host!)
Thanks! Don't forget to thank the contest host, judges, etc. Even thank the other participants! It's competition that spurs us on to be better! A great way to thank WDC members is to review them!
Congrats! Congratulate the other winners. Often, there is more than one winner in a contest, and it's polite to congratulate them, too!
Revise! Just because you've won doesn't mean your item is perfect! Take another look at it, particularly if you've received feedback from WDC members.
Spend! Decide what to do with your earnings! Often winning a contest comes with a gift point prize. What you do with your prize is obviously up to you, but some ideas: Save up for an Upgraded Membership, donate it to a contest/activity, send it along with reviews, sponsor an item, buy something from the Writing.Com Shop, recognize a friend's work with an Awardicon or Merit Badge.
Really, my advice on winning is the same as my advice upon losing: Never stop writing! I think even the greatest writers would agree, you can always improve!
Always keep on writing!

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (June 13, 2012)" ), discussed quick contests & activities for when you're short on time.
Please could you include a link to this new contest in the next issue of your marvelous newsletter. I would be most grateful.
Thank you ~ A E Willcox
Sure thing! I've linked it above, and here it is again: " Magic Words Contest " [13+]
Thanks for this creative newsletter on what to do if you are limited for time. I will take your advice when I have more time. LOL
