"For me science fiction is a way of thinking, a way of logic that bypasses a lot of nonsense. It allows people to look directly at important subjects." ~ Gene Roddenberry
"Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." ~Leonard Cohen
"Fantasy is the impossible made probable. Science fiction is the improbable made possible." ~ Rod Serling

Leonard Cohen defines "poetry" as "the evidence of life" and I would add to that definition evidence of cultural. Precisely when in human history humans started composing poetry is something, much of humanity cannot answer. We do know that the Egyptians and earlier cultures wrote poetry because we have evidence on papyrus so composing poetry probably began before the invention of writing.
I inhale
oxygen molecules fill my lungs,
energize my mind,
and carry me to the next line,
the next planet.
The question of defining poetry is one that we discuss and written about repeatedly. This brings us to the question of what is Fantasy and Science Fiction poetry. I think this is something each poet must decide for him or herself. You can do a search of the internet and find information on science fiction and fantasy poems, but until the poet reads or writes poems if these type you can list the components, but you cannot say precisely what they are.

Stories and Poems
Excerpt: And so it was said, in reference to the Dark Cloud
That fell over the kingdom, enveloping in a very gloomy shroud
It all started they say, when the Princess was given away
To Mark the Farmer, who surprisingly came back as a prince one day

Its presence here is one of the many reasons that Flower's Flower Museum of Flowers is the most elite of flower museums in this neighborhood."
Excerpt: We rode upon an avalanche on Pluto's satellite;
upon this moon a mountain rose to gather Pluto's sight.
For we were astronaut drifters--athletic all around,
intent to conquer drifts of snow as they came roaring down.

Excerpt: Since I wrote my story with pen and paper, it's a little hard for me to just put them into a book form. So, I'll just have to type up their summaries. Please note, there are 19 of them, so it might take a while for me to get them all up.
