Do You NaNo?

I love to write. Over the years, however, life has gotten in the way. Between school, work, and other hobbies, there have been times in my life where I've barely written at all.

But I always come back to my love of writing. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) has helped me do that every year for the past four years. I consider myself a poet, so NaNoWriMo was my first exposure to writing novel-length fiction. In the four years that I have participated, I have only "won" once, finishing with a 50k+ young adult novel. Some years have been rougher than others, but in the end I'm always glad that I tried.

Just like in a relationship, writers need to try new things to keep life interesting. So if you consider yourself a poet or have never written anything above 20k, why not give NaNoWriMo a try this November? It may just be what's needed to spice up your romance with writing!

And you if you need a little support and prep before November, check out:

Nice newsletter :) and also some nice links. My new romantic novella includes romance and drama and funny, interesting characters, set in Virginia in the mid 80's. I'm going to re-edit and check for symbolism. :) -johnny1209

Ask & Answer

Thanks to everyone who has written in about my recent Romance/Love Newsletters! I have included some of your comments below.

Great idea about symbolism. Other suggestions, a bracelet, a necklace, a gemstone piece of jewerly, a jewelry box foodwise you could use cheese puffs! LOL Wine, an appetizer, grapes. I think you can be very creative with this! -StephBee Author IconMail Icon

Thank you for writing an inspirational article. I had begun to feel alone in my confusion about why certain books are considered to be best sellers. Your article makes me want to be a better reader and writer. I believe quality of writing is especially important in an age where email and text messages are made up of grammatical errors and shortcuts which are considered to be normal. -Sunflower Author IconMail Icon

Crys, I'm a little late with this one, but felt it fit your "Young Love" NL ao I wanted to share it with you.

"Young Love" is just general enough to cover a few different situations. Your example was a beautiful one. My first crush, when I was 10, was on a girl in my class that looked older than 10, even though I knew full well she was my age. She was a twin, but I could tell which one was which even when they weren't together.

Young Love would also cover the girl I fell in love with my senior year in high school. Linda was 16, I was 17. It was love at first sight, but took us 4 weeks to admit it to each other. Once we did, we never looked back. We eloped at 19 because my parents refused to let us be together (legal age was 21 in Ohio then), and we had 11 1/2 wonderful years together until her death on March 3, 1980. But I wouldn't change a minute of our time together. Young Love can take many forms. And you and I were fortunate to have those times in our lives. - Incurable Romantic Author IconMail Icon
