First Dates And Dating

I think I was twelve.

I couldn't wear makeup but I put in my best earrings and dressed up in my favorite outfit: a red ruffled top and my most comfortable jeans.

We went to a Disney movie, with my sister and best friend playing chaperones. My parents drove the “limo”, a 1970 maroon Buick Century, and picked everyone up and deposited us off at the theater.

At twelve we were too “cool” to sit anywhere but the back third of the theater. So, three giggling girls and a slightly awkward man-in-training sat together four rows from the back door. There was a trip to the restroom (all three girls went together, of course) and a popcorn pit stop - all before the opening credits.

I remember some nervous chitchat during the credits but once the movie started and the lights went down we held hands. We whispered once or twice in the first two minutes and by chance our lips collided.

After that, I don’t remember a thing.

Except that the world was much brighter, more beautiful and hummed a little tune if you listened hard enough.

Hi there, I just wanted to say thanks for featuring my poem and how much I enjoyed the other poems. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rebecca's Heart Poetry and will have a bash at this myself. I look forward to seeing more ideas like this.

God Bless, Wolfsong
