Letter from the editor

I'd already decided to discuss the upcoming 13th WDC Birthday celebrations to be held September 1st in this issue. Then I saw this morning's Newfeed by the The StoryMaster Author Icon in which he stated,
"Oh boy... if only you could see the cool new stuff we just put on WDC like I can. But you can't. Because my access level is higher than yours!"

First thing you notice is the SM is such a tease. But dig a little deeper and you'll find an extremely talented and creative husband and wife team (The StoryMaster Author Icon and The StoryMistress Author Icon for you really new folks) who have nothing but the best interests of you, me, our fellow members and Writing.Com in mind.

Thirteen years! WDC is entering its teen years. Parents with teenagers know how trying AND rewarding that can be. I suspect the festivities that will kick off on the 1st will be something to remember. And something in which you'll want to take part.

Traditionally during this time, the SM and SMs release new features--some small, some significant--to make our work and play on WDC more fun. *Cool* While we wait for the unveiling [tapping our feet impatiently], there are some things you can check out now.

The official WDC celebrations last about a week with many member-run activities and events lasting up to a month. There will literally be millions of Gift Points given away across the site along with a plethora of Merit Badges, Awardicons, reviews, raffle tickets, and whatever else our creative members can imagine to give. Many members host their own contests, raffles, and other events, publicizing them on the "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. and "Activities @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window.. Or, just type '13th birthday' in the Search window and see what comes up.

One special place you'll want to visit will be Party Central--"Writing.Com Party Central 2024!Open in new Window.. Opening on or just before the 1st, Party Central is your one-stop shop for all things birthday.

If you're new and feel a mite intimidated about the complexity of the site, now's the time to take a deep breath ... and jump in. There's SO much to do and I promise you won't be sorry.

Ask & Answer

And from the mailbox about my last Noticing Newbies newsletter, "What's Your Passion?Open in new Window..

From Diana Author Icon: I joined in January, I think. For some reason the site didn't gel with me that time. But a few days ago I revisited and I guess I'm just more ready now. This is a great site. Easily the best writing site I've found on the internet. There are so many ways to get involved.

'Bout time, Dave. *Bigsmile* Seriously, I hope you find WDC as fun and rewarding as I do. I look forward to seeing you around the site.

From Joy Author Icon: "Don't let the complexity of WDC scare you away." So true! Too many leave without getting to know the site, and it is their loss. Great newsletter and great tips for Newbies! Thanks, Jace. *Smile*

Thanks, Miss Joy. I hope folks take the time to see the 'real' WDC. *Smile*
