Today's Topic Timing - When to run your contest or activity
When running a contest or activity, everyone wants to have people participate. The problem with this can be that there are so many contests or activities running at one time and members can only do so much. How can you maximize the potential participants? Timing.
Have you noticed how many contests or activities are running on the site at any given time? There are a ton of them that members have to wade through to find ones fitting their interests. Working around the times that these are running could mean more participants in your own activities. I have a few tips for how to pick the best time to run what you want:
Plan ahead. This is especially key with activities such as auctions or raffles so that you can spread the word and get donations if they're necessary.
What else is running? Research other activities that are running at the same time, particularly of the same type you want to run.
With contests, how long will they run? Many contests run along the same time frames and doing a contest round every two weeks instead of one week could lend to more people participating.
Keep an eye on holiday contests. Many of these run every year and it could be tough trying to draw members to your contest or activity with so much going on. A good example would be running another contest during the birthday week celebrations.
What time of year will this run? Think about when more members are active on the site. Running an activity at that time could get more members interested.
How often is your activity going to run? With activities it is best to run a few a year, while a contest could be a round a month.
Remember to always consider timing when planning a contest or activity. It can maximize the number of participants joining in the fun and that's something everyone wants.
Here are some currently running contests and activities that I think are awesome.
