Help Promote Writing.Com

One question I hear quite often on this site is:

How do I get more people to read/review my work?

Well, there are lots of ways, the biggest of which, I've found, is to review others. Many members will reciprocate with a review! But I'd like to address another approach. One way to get more readers is to bring more members to Writing.Com!

Don't be afraid to let people "in the real world" know about your portfolio! Many of us know other writers. Don't hesitate to tell them about this wonderful writing community! And if you don't know any other writers, there are lots of other ways to advertise and help to bring in more WDC members:

*Bullet* Post a Flyer! Visit Writing.Com Flyers  Open in new Window., print out some flyers and place them anywhere writers might gather! Try coffee shops, schools, libraries, bookstores, etc.

*Bullet* Become a fan of Writing.Com's Facebook Page  Open in new Window. and share their links and images! (One of the best I've seen was recently shared by George Takei, who may possibly be the most well-known person on the internet. 1,000 gps goes to anyone who responds to this newsletter or emails me describing what the image said!) Click here  Open in new Window. for shareable Facebook images!

*Bullet* Use other social media to get the word out: Pinterest, Twitter, etc. Don't start spamming people, but there are lots of ways to use social media to attract attention to our favorite writing community.

*Bullet* Writing.Com Gear! Browse the WDC shop and consider picking up a few items! I wear my WDC hoodie all the time! (It's super comfy, by the way) They have lots of branded gear in the WDC Shop  Open in new Window., like pens, pins, mugs, shirts, bags and more!

Remember, the more members we have, the more members there are to read your work!

I understand that a lot of writers have family and friends who might not know that you write or the subject about which you write, and it can be scary to share that part of yourself with them. There are, however, options you can use if you wish to keep some of your writing private. You can always change your restriction settings! Private means only you can view the item. You can also restrict access to only Writing.Com members (which would be "Registered Users and Higher"), to those with at least one item in their portfolio ("Registered Authors and Higher"), specific types of members ("Preferred Authors and Higher" or "Moderators and Higher"), or to a specific group.

As writers, we need readers to move forward and to be successful writers. It just makes sense to advertise our work and our favorite online writing community!

Please watch and share:

Always keep on writing!
