About This Newsletter

There was a day, last week or a decade ago, that you typed "writing" into your search engine. You wanted to show off some of your poems, short stories, or maybe even get feedback for a whole novel. You found Writing.com.

The other side of writing: reading.


This newsletter is designed to shine a light on contests and activities, and you can find many of those on the "Activities @ Writing.Com" Open in new Window. and "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" Open in new Window. pages. Writing and playing in each others activities is a big part of what we do here.

The other side of writing, which is reading, is just as important. Reading has many benefits to writers. Whether you read to review, or read for pleasure, you are bound to get something back from every poem, story, or novel you read. You learn new words, experience different points of view, increase your knowledge on topics, and sometimes what you read sparks your imagination and suddenly, you have to put your reading material down and jot down an idea for your own creative endeavors.

Take a little time to peruse the forums and groups dedicated to reading and the discussion of reading. You will be happy to see the many books Writing.com members have published. You will enjoy engaging conversations about your favorite books with others who read them. You can commiserate on the brilliance of published authors, or rage about those writers who seem to churn out things that you don't find amazing, yet still find favor with the masses. Study all of them. Together and right here with other WdC members.
