Life throws us curve balls, running us through a gambit of emotions. The best emotion of all is happines, and nothing envokes happiness more than laughter. There is a science to making others laugh, and it is through that science that comedy has evolved.
This topic of this week's Comedy Newsletter is procrastination. |

Wow. You have to love it when you or someone waits until the last minute to get something done. My entire week has been filled with last-minute escapades.
On Friday, my dogs got into a fight. I had to take one dog to the emergency vet at 7:30 pm. We were going to South Bend on Saturday, for the whole day, with the baby. Jason, my husband, was also preparing to go out of town this week on a business trip. Our original plans involved getting him packed for his trip, preparing for our trip to South Bend, and relaxing.
By 9 pm Friday evening, none of our plans were seen through. He hadn't packed for his trip. We hadn't packed for South Bend. Neither of us got a moment's relaxation.
Fast forward to Saturday, 5 am. We're both running around, trying to get stuff together. The baby is still in his pajamas, and I haven't even gotten his clothes picked out for the day. I was throwing supplies into his backpack, hoping that I didn't miss anything.
We had travelled to South Bend to watch Notre Dame play USC. While we didn't wait until the last minute to go into the game, there was another kind of procrastination afoot. USC waited until the very last moment of the game to score the winning touchdown, affirming their 28-game winning streak and their number one ranking in the polls (much to my chagrin).
We didn't get home until 10:30 Saturday night, and went straight to bed. The next morning, we ran to Sam's Club to get meat, because we had waited until we were basically out of meat before we went and bought more. That's right, more procrastination.
I had this newsletter and one other due. I had planned to write them Sunday morning, but instead we went to visit our lame dog (we had to separate the two).
We were having company over for dinner. They were supposed to arrive around 7 pm. We got home, finally, at 6:45 pm. That didn't leave much time to cook dinner. Needless to say, it wasn't served until near 8:30 pm.
My husband finally got packed for his trip this morning, just as he was leaving. I also had to pack, because the baby and I are staying with my mother-in-law while my husband is away.
I had a job interview this afternoon, for a job that starts Wednesday. Another result of procrastination, but luckily I'm not to blame on that one. I won't know until the last minute whether or not I'm hired, either. I hope my current boss understands when I give him last-minute notice, if I get the job.
And now, finally, I have written my newsletter. I've procrastinated as long as I can. Any later, and I'll be writing it when it is due to be released, and we can't have that.
The moral to this story:
Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today, unless you have a good excuse.
I had a good excuse. I'll tell you what it is tomorrow. |
