Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ~Norman Vincent Peale
Christmas is a time when you get homesick - even when you're home. ~Carol Nelson
I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. ~Charles Dickens
Christmas is the gentlest, loveliest festival of the revolving year - and yet, for all that, when it speaks, its voice has strong authority. ~W.J. Cameron
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. ~Burton Hillis |

In a time of year when we all get (pun intended!) wrapped up in buying presents, parties, getting more presents, wrapping or assembling tab As into slot Bs until the wee hours of the morning, stressing over perfect gifts, lack of money or what to get that relative who has everything anyone could ever want times three and added to that other aunt who never likes what you painstakingly pick out anyway: consider giving a gift of your words. Even the most humble pf presents is enhanced with a neatly handwritten poem that you took the time, energy and thought to write. It is personal, from the heart and can be sweet or loving or even funny.
Write to that specific audience of one. The possibilities are endless. Old-fashioned Christmases or perhaps a Hanukkah celebrated during the war to an older relative or one who just needs reminding of what our varied celebrations are really all about. Perhaps a funny one recalling the year the tree fell over or the time everyone wrapped pictures cut out of a catalog because there was no money at all. A special poem to the child who really is too old to believe in Santa but who wants to keep that magic alive. One for the uncle who lost his wife less than a year ago reminding him of that special Christmas Aunt So-and-so pulled off a extra loving surprise. Another to the couple expecting their first child musing on the joys ahead. Maybe... even one to share with all about the parents who no longer are with you...nifty way to keep them a part of it all and bring them closer. Write one to the cat or dog who makes you laugh and always knows just the right time to cuddle close! One to the best friend who hanging in there with you through blather moments, tears and goofy giggle-fests. Write one to your writing buddy who is always willing to listen to the latest chapter and offer coherent advice--even if it is three o'clock in the morning.
Share a bit of heartfelt love and joy and it will be tucked away in a jewelry book or keepsake place for years to come! It will be unfolded at odd moments, reread again and you will give them yet another smile. Socks wear out and toys break, the candy is eaten and the puzzle solved, but your words will live on! Consider tucking it inside an ornament or using it as a tag on that special present. That piece of your heart will never be fully spent, worn out or lost under the couch. It will be treasured and long remembered! |

Thank you :)
BillieGail memory of Cheyenne writes: I am always shooting myself in the foot. I start reading the instructions and act quickly to get it over with. I would have had marks all over my paper if I had not decided to read those all the way through this time. I find that I do this in the classes I take here on WDC and in college as well. I read over it so fast that I miss certain things and then I'm like "what!" when the instructor tells me to redo the work or reread the instructions. I am like "But I did", but in truth I never really read it. I skimmed it.
Yup yup :)
