Alone, But Not Lonely

It's December! Counting down to the holiday season. Shopping sales are in full swing. Whether or not you celebrate the holidays, I think it's safe to say there are a million stories waiting to be written. Only one thing....

We're busy. Maybe too busy to write.

The holidays are replete with hustle and bustle. Shopping, cooking and baking, parties, traveling to visit family or friends, and having family or friends visit us. Whatever your distractions, they are vying for your time.

I came across the following quote from Lessonslearnedinlife.com on Facebook (yes, I finally joined the phenomenon, and while I don't often subscribe to a lot of the postings, I found this one especially pertinent for this busy time):

Sometimes you need to be alone to find out who you really are, and what you really want in life.

Don't be too quick to spend all your time on those around you. I know family and friends are important. But so are you!

You can be alone and not be lonely. A little alone time (and by extension, some needed peace and quiet) is just what the muse ordered. Carve out some time, perhaps fifteen minutes at the same time each day, to write. Let your mind go. Think about some idea you have about a story (we all have such things).

Maybe you might sit alone at your local coffee shop, sipping on an iced mocha, and observe those hustling around you. Imagine the dramas that might unfold in each person's life. Even if you don't write a complete story, you might flesh out a few characters you can expand on later.

Don't let the hectic pace of the holiday season bowl you over. I submit you'll be happier (and less stressed) if you slow down and take some "me" time. Do it ... now! *Wink*
