Letter from the editor

Last night I saw the movie, “Flight Plan” with Jodie Foster because I like Aviation Thrillers. I guess this is mainly due to the 12 years in the Navy as a Jet Engine Specialist. For the most part the movie did not live up to my expectations. I thought Jodie Foster, known for her dramatic acting, really over-acted her part and then I didn’t think she was the right woman to pull off the action scenes. In my opinion Jodie was an unbelievable action/adventure actress because of her build.

This brings me to the topic of my discussion for this week. When writing your characters for your thriller, pick certain aspects that will enhance the actions, not take away from them. The Action/Adventure genre is the same as all of the others in the telling of the character. Your protagonist may have more brawn, more fire power, more athletic skills but they should have at least one weakness to overcome in the telling of the story. No one is perfect and there is not a perfect character either.

I also think that your characters should be well balanced for all parts of your story… He should be romantic, debonair, and able to reflect on his childhood and kiss a baby. Make your situations more believable with the character actions as well as their character traits.
