Symbols of Love

What do you think of when you think of as a symbol of love? I think of roses and rings. Roses have different meanings assigned according to color. Romantic love has long been attributed to red roses. This is the traditional flower given to loved ones on Valentines Day and other special occasions.

Roses are a nice treat, but when I think of everlasting love, I think of engagement rings. The circular shape of the ring is the promise of a never-ending love. There is no end to the circle, meaning no break in the love. Now, we all know this isn't always the case, it's purely symbolic after all.

The diamond on the engagement ring has meaning as well. It is believed to be invincible and indestructible, both qualities we look for in a relationship. The recent trend of bigger is better in the case of the diamond is disturbing. Love shouldn't be assigned a monetary value. The symbolism is in the ring itself, not the size of the stones.

There is symbolism in every relationship. Different things have romantic meaning to each couple. For example, whenever I see and apple pie, I laugh. My boyfriend and I had a not-so-pleasant experience with apple pie on our second date. Normally, a case of food poisoning wouldn't be romantic, but for us, it was a bonding experience. *Laugh*

When you tell a story, think about the things that make this romance special. What symbolizes the romance between your couples? Think beyond the typical symbols of flowers and rings. If you have something in your romance that symbolizes love, share it with the newsletter readers by sending in a comment.

Until Next Time,
