While most writers are introverts, we still like to chat with each other and doing so online makes things easier for us. The privacy, the knowing that the other person doesn't see you, gives you that comfort bubble where you feel that you can open up and talk to others. It's understandable. It's also a way to get to know yourself. When it comes to Writing.com, a lot of us fear the judges and who might say what or how they'll see us. Eventually, you reach the point where you realize that we do not judge. All we want is to do the same thing as you.
These days our interaction with others is broadened through instant messaging, the newsfeed, emails, and even various contest forums. What happens if regular conversation becomes too much or not enough? What if you feel like discussing more things than just the every day things?
A lot of us have tried creating a discussion forum available to anyone and everyone can have a say in it. Unless it's writing related or has a certain niche, it will probably become stale, collect dust somewhere in your port. You may try to revive it and get it going again, but unless you invest time in it and/or add something special to it, it'll most likely stay a forum for random chatting if even that.
I've looked through WdC and found a few interesting forums leaning in that direction. Many are dormant without - set up prettily and just sitting there for someone to visit them. Some create the In&Outs for better interaction but it takes a certain something to spark that light and to keep it going, there seem to be incentives attached with it.
Do you ever look for a place like that and what would be the subjects you'd like to discuss?
'til next time!
