Letter from the editor

Birthday celebrations at Writing.Com always come during the beginning of September. This year is a big number for any website: 15 years old. For this party, you can always expect some amazing activities run by members (which are highlighted below) and some awesome things by The StoryMaster and The StoryMistress.

Review Mixer and Daily Review GPs:
You can typically expect an awesome amount of Gift Points for reviewing during the birthday week courtesy of "The Review MixerOpen in new Window. and "Daily Review RewardsOpen in new Window..

New Emoticons:
For the past few years, new emoticons have been released each day of the birthday celebrations and are always new and exciting.

New Site Features:
There has been a release of some cool new site features every year during the celebrations, so that's something to look forward to as well.

These are just a few of the things that happen during WDC's birthday week. There are a ton of activities and contests that members run, many of which are open now for donations or for a sneak peek before they begin. No matter what you like to do, there is going to be something happening for you be involved in.

The birthday week can get a bit hectic, so here are a few tips for surviving the birthday madness:

*Giftr* Join in the festivities!

*Gifto* Take your time. The birthday activities will be around for a short while but don't rush yourself to do everything.

*Gifty* Don't run too many things. There are already a ton of activities and contests, don't try to do too many yourself.

*Giftg* Don't commit to participating in too many things. Decide what you really want to participate in.

*Giftb* Do some reviews for the GPs so that you can participate in some of the raffles and auctions.

*Giftv* Have fun! That's the whole point of the birthday activities.

Don't forget to put on a festive birthday skin for browsing around the site during the fun!

Ask & Answer

My question for you this time: What do you most enjoy about WDC's birthday celebrations?

Question from before ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (July 29, 2015)Open in new Window.): How do you challenge yourself when you're running a contest/activity or entering one?

Smee Author Icon replied: It doesn't even have to be a different genre. Just changing your protagonist can be an interesting way to stretch yourself. Young or old, man or woman, straight or gay, white or black. There's nuances and intriguing details to learn for writing each one that can surprise you with what you learn.

Dream ~★~ Justly Author Icon replied: Running a raffle, there's not usually much chance for "challenging" myself. That's why I try to come up with different "specials" every once in a while, both to make it interesting for potential participants and to exercise my creativity in a way I usually wouldn't consider.
