Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.
~ John F. Kennedy
Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality.
~ Nikos Kazantzakis
For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
~ Steve Jobs
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
~ Leo Tolstoy

There were a few subjects on my mind for this newsletter, but I've decided on writing about today's generation and the changes we've experienced in the last ten or twenty years. I've watched the younger generation and compared them to the older ones and have realized that so much has changed, wouldn't you agree?
The writers on this site will remain true to their writing as well as their reading habits; will teach their kids what they've learned and are teaching others that there's more to reading and writing than just simple words. However, do you ever look around outside your own comfort zone and see things which are hard to comprehend?
Few weeks back, my husband and I were invited to a one year old birthday party. Aside from the fact that we don't have children and therefore felt completely out of place, the fact that we don't mingle with these crowds put us in an awkward spot where we had to introduce ourselves to everyone and also explain our lack of kids. There were a lot of children, ranging from only a few months old to young teenagers. The party itself was outrageously expensive - too much for a first birthday - and everyone had been dressed as if they were going to a fashion show. Even the kids.
As we sat at a table with three other couples, I looked and saw that each and every one of them had their phone out. If a baby cried, the phone was the first thing they relied on. Find the video the child likes and it'll all be good, it seemed. Funny and sad at the same time. Electronics haven't only become a part of our lives, it's our way of survival. We feel lost without them!
Then I look at the generation that's no longer in their teens but thinks it's adult enough to take on the world. If they have a hobby, especially males, such as cars, that's all they know. Their reading comprehension extends as far as the next joke on a random site. A book, to most of them, is something that will soon be converted into a movie, so why waste time reading it?
I'm appalled and devastated, heartbroken and concerned, that the new generation won't think twice about the knowledge or enjoyment something as simple as a book can bring. Games, games, and more games. That's what it's all about.
The only suggestion I have today is that you spend some time with today's youth, see what they might enjoy reading and incorporate that into your writing.
'til next time!
