It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.
~ Charles Spurgeon
Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for its counterfeit.
~ Hosea Ballou

I've debated long and hard as to what to write about in this issue. My mind has been drifting back to this community, what it represents to most of us and how we deal with our daily struggles. One thing comes to mind - togetherness. On this site we are more than just faceless, struggling writers. We are not just a community. We are family.
With that said, most of you have already heard that Diane stepped down from her staff position and is now a purple case. For over a decade Diane has been dedicated to this site, running its official contests, helping out where ever help was needed and tons more. With real life stepping in, she went from being a red case to being a purple one. I know it'll take me some time getting used to seeing her as a Sr. Mod. That doesn't meant that she won't be around - just not as much as she used to. If you have time, get to know her! She's a joy to talk to.
Jeff has stepped up and taken over running the official contests - which means dealing with Moderators of a blue nature. He has no idea what he got himself into yet. Jeff is an amazing guy, a hard worker, who is very professional and always willing to help out. Get to know him, if you haven't already.
As if that weren't enough, I'm sure most of you heard about the struggles The StoryMaster & The StoryMistress are going through. Their daughter Phoebe has been recently diagnosed with Leukemia. A hard blow to be sure, and I have no idea how they are managing to keep their sanity. The struggle is real and hard, for Phoebe as well as her parents.
That's where we come in.
Since this entire site is run by two magnificent people such as them, we are here to help them. Be it to cheer them up, to send them a card for Phoebe, or to keep the site running as smoothly as possible, that's what we are here for. It doesn't matter what case color you are. If you are part of this site, you are family to us and we take care of each other.
If you'd like to read more about what's going on with Phoebe and how the entire family is holding up, visit Storymaster's Notebook . They are trying to look at things on the bright side and busy themselves with other things - you have to keep your mind off of what's going on in order to be somewhat sane - but I know it's tough.
They aren't asking for much. In fact, they never ask for anything! All they want is for us to enjoy our time on this site, to make friends, and to write, write, write. What can we do for them, then? We can be here for them. Do business as usual, however tough it may be sometimes. Run our contests and activities like we always do. Keep things going!
It's not easy. Ever since I heard the news, I haven't been able to focus on much. Any kind of illness takes a lot out of one, especially when that someone is a child. There are no words. We can only hope for the best. And in the meantime...
Right?
