Newsletters in general provide some great reading, both from the selected links to Writing.Com members' items and from the informative help and advice given in the editorials. The Contest Newsletter is your portal to understanding the mechanics involved with the contests. Even though some of the links may have become invalid, previous editions of each newsletter still provide useful tips and advice that you might have forgotten. Take a search through them whenever you get a chance. You might find the exact information or incentive you need to go forward with an idea you've had or write an entry you've been thinking about.

Thank you to everyone who sent in comments! I truly appreciate it.
Hello,
I love contests. They make me write more. I have come up with stories that I am sure I would not have without them. Plus it is so interesting to see what others do with the same ideas.
As I am sure that you are aware of the fact that the contest list does not list all of the contests that are going on. This drives me up the wall.
Doing a search is not all that great. You come up with things that [are] three years old and stories. All I want are fairly current listing of contests for something I write.
What I would like to see on one of my groups is a list of the contests that are taking short stories of dark fiction.
So if you would kindly do me the favor and please post this in an up-coming newsletter it would help me out a lot.
Please send me any and all links to me.
Thank you.
alicengoreland
Thanks, Alice. You've made several good points:
1) Contests really do offer a chance to either write something you wouldn't have considered otherwise, or expand your thoughts within genres you do write.
2) If anyone discovers a contest that is not in "Invalid Item" just send the link to Jamie.
3) Everyone does not use keywords (or the best keywords per item) so members can find what they're looking for.
Ahhhh...you made me realize the importance of keywords! Thanks for that.
Again, I am sure that all of this newsletter's readers appreciate the posting of deadlines for contests. Great job! I'm sure that takes some time~
Tehanu
Thanks, Tehanu. Keywords are very important online.
Posting the deadlines only takes a few seconds longer. Thankfully, most hosts state their deadlines. lol If a contest would be ending just before the date the newsletter is to be sent out, but it's an ongoing one, then I list it as a daily, weekly, monthly (etc.) contest so members might consider entering or participating in the next round.
Thanks so much for highlighting my "Invalid Item" {HUGS} I really appreciate it!
InkyShadows
(((hugs you back))) You're very welcome, InkyShadows!!!
Thank you for mentioning my contests in your newsletter! I and my managers really planned a big activities' list for our grand opening and your listings I think have helped to make it a success!
DragonBlue
Very cool, dragonblue!!!
