Welcome to this week's edition of the Romance/Love newsletter. Each edition highlights stories and poetry on the site containing romance and love for your reading pleasure.
The holidays are a time of joy, but also one of rememberance. During the holiday season I find my mind drifting to times past and loved ones who are no longer with me. Memories of my grandfather fill my mind in particular. I spent hours in his lap listening to stories of my father's childhood and time spent with family on the farm.
If I close my eyes, I can picture his chair, sitting in the corner of the living room. It's position allowed him to see the television and the kitchen at the same time. My grandmother spent many hours in the kitchen preparing meals for the family while we lounged around playing games and listening to grandpa's tales.
The Christmas tree was kept in the basement. My grandparents decided years before to leave it set up all year round. It made it easier when the holidays arrived. No pulling out decorations, unraveling lights or searching for stockings. It was a winter wonderland even on the hottest days of summer. My sister and I would play down there, pretending to unwrap our gifts and thank the givers for whatever we received. I'm sure had my grandfather lived long enough, he would have told stories of these make-believe holidays to our children.
I hope all of your holidays are happy and you take time to think of loved ones no longer with us during this season of giving.
