Any new member on this site will feel completely lost for a time. They may post some of their writing and if we as a community don't review the work there's a possibility that they might feel discouraged to continue. However, it has been my experience that a person who wants to pursue their writing dreams and expand their knowledge, will quickly learn to maneuver around the site, even if it's just the basics.
Finding the proper group may be a bit harder.
Even if you aren't new to the site, finding the right group to participate with isn't an easy thing to figure out. There are some who are similar or their focus is on specific items. I encourage one and all, new and old members, to look around the site and see what's out there. Many new groups have been created recently, creating a bit of competition for those who've been around for quite some time. Some of these groups don't necessarily review and cannot be seen on Top Actively Reviewing Groups which means that searching, looking around and asking questions may get you where you want to be.
There are many, many groups out there. Some are active, others not so much, but if you decide to join a group where reviewing is part of the game, do your best to participate. Earning Gift Points as well as getting to know other members of the site is a huge plus. Expanding your writing skills is also something you can do when joining a group.
While it isn't necessary to join any group on the site, it does help in the long run. Many of us have found some really good friends through groups, while reviewing or planning certain things. Keep an open mind when it comes to this particular part of the site. Even though many think that in order to be part of a certain group you end up being a part of a certain clique, that isn't true at all.
Those who run a group and keep track of everything throughout end up investing a lot of time into it. With that, there's only so much that can be done. They end up working mostly with those people who are part of their group which almost seems like a clique but isn't. The free time the members have invest it into something they like and value and if you'd like to be part of it, you are more than welcome to join any of them.
'til next time!
~ Gaby
