Letter from the editor

With so many cNote items around Writing.Com these days, there are people who want to know how to create them, how to send them, or the different ways they can be used.

Creating a cNote Item

*Exclaim* For each cNote you would like to create, you must have one image item in your portfolio.

*Exclaim* You must have an upgraded membership or higher to be able to create the image items and cNote item types.

*Star* Create a cNote item type by going to the Writing link at the top of any Writing.Com page.
Select Community Note.
Fill out the item information as you would a static item.
Select the maximum recipients for each cNote. This can be any amount from 1 to 5. 3 is the default.
Select your charge per amount. You can charge per mailed recipient or group.
Select the Save Item button when you are ready to save your cNote item.

*Star* Create your cNotes by managing the cNote item type.
View your cNote item.
Click the "Manage" link on the item header.
Click "Create A New cNote For This Collection"
Give the cNote a subject. This is the email subject that each cNote recipient will see.
Enter the image item ID number. This is the image that each cNote recipient will see when they open their email.
Enter a cNote body. This is optional. Many people leave their cNote bodies blank.
Enter a price for your cNote. Please note that an additional 250 GPs are added on to each cNote price. This amount is the Writing.Com processing fee for each sent cNote.

*Star* Repeat the last step for each cNote image you have.

Sending a cNote to Another Writing.Com Member

*Exclaim* To send a cNote, you will need to have the appropriate amount of gift points required for the cNotes sending price.

*Star* Select the cNote image you would like to send.

*Star* Scroll down until you see the recipient and message box.

*Star* Enter the username of each recipient that you would like to send the cNote to. If you were going to send a cNote to me, you would send it to mworden.

*Star* Enter the message you would like to send with the cNote.

*Star* You have the choice to send additional Gift Points to the cNote recipient. Enter that amount, if you choose to do so.

*Star* Do you want to send this cNote anonymously? Select Yes or No.

*Star* Click the "Preview this cNote" button. Verify that all entered information is correct. If it isn't, select the "Edit cNote" button. If everything is correct, select the "Send cNote" button.

Usages for cNotes

There are many different ways you can use a cNote item.

Some members use them as gift certificates of sorts, where the recipient receives something additional to the cNote itself (like a signature or reviews).

There are some cNote items that are used as raffle tickets. Each cNote purchased is good for the chance to win something additional to the cNote itself.

Some members use cNotes to raise Gift Points for charity groups of their choice. All or a portion of the funds earned by the sending of cNotes from these particular items will go to the group of the cNote owner's choice.

I hope that you found this month's article about cNotes to be helpful. If there are any topics you would like to see covered by the Contests & Activities newsletter editors, please let us know!

Ask & Answer

Thanks for the tips, and for the mention in the newsletter. I tell ya, sometimes I feel like Julia Roberts the first time she tries to shop on Rodeo Drive in "Pretty Woman" - "I have all these gp's and nobody wants them!" *Laugh*

I've had several contest attempts where I felt the same way!

Hi! Thanks for this newsletter! I have a contest "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. and it have 206 views and 7 reviews of people who loved the contest but would not enter because they feel would not receive the inspiration. It has received just 2 entries and 1 attempt that I did not understood. However, thanks for your sugestions. I will use one of them I have not used previously. Thanks!

Hi Loraine,
Sometimes you can do everything right, but if your contest isn't as inspiring as you'd hoped, you'll find that you're unable to gain as many entries as you might if you had a more general prompt. Good luck in your future contests!
Melissa

Wow, Mel - two newsletters in one week, a crazy-houred job, and an 8 month baby!?!? How do you do it??

Excellent job, my friend! *Smile*

Hi Mari,
Having a husband and a job that allows me the time to get what I need done done really helps! I know if my son had his choice, I would never put him down. Thank you! *Smile*

Thank you for sharing, Mel! I have learned a lot about running a contest, and now feel a bit more prepared to start one in the near future.
