Getting Noticed - Part Two
Have you discovered the Public Review Page?
See the solid bar across the very top of the screen?
Getting Started - Reading - Writing - Reviewing
The Reading link will take you to items wanting to be read. Look in the genres you chose for your own items and you'll see them right up there with everyone else's.
Also, read your reviews and make those corrections regularly. You know why? Everytime you edit your item by a correction or revision, it will be placed back on the top of the reading lists! Try it and go look. People love to read work when it is obvious the author is actually working on it. You'll get more reads. While you're there, read something. The author will appreciate it.
If you never edit your work, it will sit static in your port and you'll complain no one ever reads it. They can't read it if it's not out there to be seen! Everytime a new item is posted or modified by editing, it will push your item further down on the list. So, keep writing!
The Writing link will take you to the Create a new item page.
Make sure you use all the genres you're allowed for more exposure. You'll choose the first main genre. Short Story, Essay, Poetry, etc. - you know the drill.
The three smaller boxes further down the page are just as important to you. You can leave them blank, they're not required; but if you leave them blank, your item will only show on the one you chose. You are allowed three more, use them all for the maximum exposure of your writing. Your item will show on all four lists, and that's what you want. Choosing Other is not a good choice because there is not a list for it.
Be sure to choose a rate at both the content and intro. boxes. After all that shining and polishing you don't want to be left out because you forgot to add the Rate. E rated content must be squeaky clean. If you have the slightest smudge on a word, even simple little words like drat - or stupid, it must be rated higher than E. If you have any doubts, always rate it higher - be safe. There is a link there to help you know how to rate your items. Read it. If you don't choose a rate at all, your items will not show on the public lists. The system can't guess at the content. It will only show to those readers who have set their reading filter to read all rates.
The Reviewing link will take you to the Public Review Page. My personal favorite.
There you will see reviews given by members who remembered to check the 'make the review public' box before sending the review. It must contain more than 250 characters in order to show up.
The exposure is fantastic and you may be rewarded with gp's for well done reviews. Those rewards are the key to being on the Most Credited Reviewer List. The amount of gp's rewarded are the only determining factor there. So, be encouraging and give helpful suggestions.
Being on the Most Active Reviewer list is entirely up to the reviewer himself. It is determined by his own efforts, not rewards. If you review more, you will rise on the list. Simple.
There's also a Most Active Rater list because some members choose to rate only.
Being on these lists is something to be proud of. It shows genuine community involvement.
Study the reviews and you'll learn from them too. That's why they're public. You can always find something good to read by reading another's comments. We encourage you to help any author you notice who has received a lower rate. Those items are posted with the hope that others will offer their help too. Since no one knows everything, we need a team effort to learn. Posting your comments publicly will help.
While your main desire may be to keep your name out there to be noticed, noticing others is one of the best ways to accomplish this.
Check the Most Credited Reviewer and the Most Active Reviewer lists. Is your name there yet? It's entirely up to you.
Welcome to Writing.Com.
Merry Christmas and May God Bless us all.
Keep on writing!
