About This Newsletter

Welcome to this week's edition of the WDC Horror/Scary Newsletter.

Writing horror opens a dialogue, interactive, between the writer and reader ~ and perhaps being that have been here all along ~ watching, and waiting. And the dialogue is as varied as the writers and readers who embrace this otherworld, be it supernatural or mundane.

All that I see or seem is but
a dream within a dream...

E.A. Poe

Halloween.
Sly does it. Tiptoe catspaws. Slide and creep.
But why? What for? How? Who? When! Where did it all begin?
You don't know, do you? asks Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud climbing
out of the pile of leaves under the Halloween Tree. You don't really know!

Ray Bradbury, The Halloween Tree

Letter from the editor

Greetings, as Halloween/Samhain approaches and the veil between the known and unknown is thinnest, if we are open to it, we can see, hear and imagine encounters between the tangible present and the ethereal past, future and present - and share our images with readers in prose and verse.

Consider how these visitors from across the veil make themselves known, and bring them to life for your readers. How do we engage with 'spirits' from beyond the veil, will they speak, touch, smell? Explore with me some of the manifestations of these encounters *Ghost* ~

Apparitions are any types of visual, paranormal related manifestation. The key word to remember is visual. A ghost can take the form of an apparition, like an orb or human figure that you can see. But not all paranormal visualizations are ghosts. They can be in the form of trains, animals, and inanimate objects. Some apparitions of people might be visions of things or people that were in the same place years ago - seen through the veil. They appear as a holographic video of something that used to be there, and left an imprint. These imprints are generally caused by very dramatic and emotional events that become a part of the land and it's near surroundings. I've met with some ghost hunters in a haunted prison and they classified all paranormal visualizations as apparitions, although they admit to seeing (and sometimes photographing) more than one type of the following apparitions:

*Spider*Crisis Apparitions - Where is when a person is or was in a crisis. Either they are dying or have just died and are appearing in spirit form to their family or other loved ones to send the message that they are are going or have all ready left the physical world. These apparitions can appear to people in their dreams as well as in a familiar location. .

*Witch*Apparitions of the Dead - These are spirits of those who have passed from this existence to the realm of the dead. These apparitions often have a message, and appear to someone with whom they were close in life, a family member or another grieving their passing. These may be the most likely to reach through the veil to attend to unfinished business. I think deathbed apparitions are similar, as the apparitions manifest to a dying or very ill person in the form of relatives who have passed and reach across the veil, or sometimes as angels or other guides to the next plane.

*Pumpkin*Reciprocal Apparitions - This is akin to a waking dream, where both the person who sees the apparition and the apparition are alive and remember seeing each other. I've heard them called the ghosts of the living. Consider the power of the human mind and will to manifest in its essential form and be seen, encountered, and both recalling it at another date and time.

*Ghost*Deathbed Apparitions - These appear to one whjo An apparition that appears to a dying person, very close to the time of their death. They can be of dead relatives, angels, or biblical figures.

Apparitions vary in their manifestation. Some appear very lifelike and others are transparent, or have puppetlike movement. Some photographed appear as orbs and pathes, or other forms of light. Some come with smells, or sounds, or gestures. Some people have claimed that apparitions reached across the veil and touched them.

Apparitions appear across the veil to guide, to comfort, or perhaps to attend to things unfinished. So engage the unknown and share the tale of an apparition with your readers.
