Images Get You Noticed

It is really true, a picture says more than a thousand words.

How can you use pictures to get people to read your story?

When you look in my editor's picks, you can see that every single one of them has a picture with it. In order to make my newsletter more attractive, I look for items with pictures to feature. That way, I get more color into my newsletter without having to insert pictures myself.

If you already know how to attach pictures to your items, good on you! For the rest of you, it's really easy!

Open your item (any item) in edit mode. In the top left of the area that you have to fill out, to the left of your item title is a square area. This area will accept an image that doesn't even have to be in your portfolio. So, if you worried that you needed the ability to store images in your portfolio, then that you can rest assured, you don't have to do that.

Create an image on your desktop. Square is best because other pictures might end up compressed and then they look funny. Try to make them small in terms of amount of pixels or MBs. The rest is easy. Make your browser window a little smaller so that you can see the picture on your desktop. Click on it and hold. Drag it into the square next to the title. It will upload. If your image is small enough, it will upload and show up. Done!

Now you can have items that are as attractive to a prospective reader as those items below. They draw in the eye, which means you have a better chance at getting your story seen, read, and reviewed.

Thank you for your submission. I have featured your contest above.

NaNoKit Author Icon wrote: Some good advice here. I remember being a new member and yes, the site was so big I just huddled in my portfolio, with no clue as to what else to do. But then I began to talk with people and that interaction drew me out of my shell.

I think it's great that we have the newsfeed nowadays. When I returned to the site earlier this year, after a long absence, it was a great way to meet other members, reconnect with members I already knew, and to find out what's going on. It helped me jump right back in, and I haven't looked back since!

I took a long time to figure out many things here on the site. And I agree that the newsfeed is a valuable addition to the site.
