Sometimes, We Just Have to Ask for Help

If you are anything like me, you hate admitting that you need help. I am learning that sometimes it is necessary.

I have always been a rather independent type woman. Not necessarily the "hear me roar" and "burn my bra" type, but the "I can make it on my own, I don't need any help" type.

Let me give you an example of my independence in my marriage. My husband wanted an independent woman. When we met, he described his ideal woman as being the type that when he said, "WOMAN! Make me a sandwich!" that woman would turn around, and tell him to make his own stinkin' sandwich. Ironically, most of the time I will make the sandwich, but he also doesn't demand a sandwich. If he asks politely, he'll get a sandwich. If he demands it, he gets nothing. Also ironically, when I do fight back, he doesn't like it very much. *Laugh* I point out that it's what he wanted, and he, even then, admits that it is. He says it would be boring if he had a woman who just rolled over and let him have his way all the time. It's worked for 17 years. Not complaining at all.

The unfortunate part of this is that I am horrible about asking for help if I need it. I'll work and work and work at something until I am nearly in tears, and I still won't ask for help. This goes for my writing, too. That's why so much of my stuff goes unfinished. It's horrible of me, and it's a habit I should stop.

So, in an attempt to write a do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do thing here, I am going to leave some places that you can go for help, if you need it. Help navigating the site, help getting feedback with your writing, and other types of help around the site.

*Bullet* "Noticing NewbiesOpen in new Window. [13+] is a forum made specifically for new members of the site. Whether you are a new member, or you just love new members, this is a great place to go. You can post questions, introduce yourself, or even post an item you'd like others to look at. They will! Join in the fun and start up a conversation.

*Bullet* "Newbie Help And Support GroupOpen in new Window. [E] is exactly what it says - it is a help and support group for new members of the site. So, if you are feeling overwhelmed, or if you are feeling like you need help, do not be like me and sit and struggle through it, no matter how wonderful the writing may be afterward, go ask for help! (Ok, maybe struggle for a little bit if that makes you happy, but then go to the group, because they are awesome!)

Those are just a few places you can go to get some help, if you need it. So, let me leave you with this song from the Beatles...
