About This Newsletter

Newsletters in general provide some great reading, both from the selected links to Writing.Com members' items and from the informative help and advice given in the editorials. The Contest Newsletter is your portal to understanding the mechanics involved with the contests. Even though some of the links may have become invalid, previous editions of each newsletter still provide useful tips and advice that you might have forgotten. Take a search through them whenever you get a chance. You might find the exact information or incentive you need to go forward with an idea you've had or write an entry you've been thinking about.

HELLO and WELCOME!
As this new year gets underway, it is the perfect time to figure out how you can incorporate Writing.Com into other areas of your life. You have a portfolio that actually can be the center of your online AND offline activity.

*Note1* No matter how active you are elsewhere online, you can bring it to your W.C. portfolio (assuming it's legal, of course). *Bigsmile*    Simply create a static item listing links to your favorite places. Use it as a notepage where you can add comments and updated thoughts that you might want to remember the next time you go to this or that website. Add these beneath the specific website link and you have a daily/weekly, etc. reminder for your internet travels. You can make this notepage "private" or allow others to view it (using the appropriate rating).

*Note1* There are so many writings here that there truly is something for everyone. A good way to do something special for friends and family members is to find a poem or story that each would like and send them a link to it. If they don't have an email account, suggest that they register for a free membership here. Then, surprise them from time to time with little gifts of specially-selected writings. Your friends and family members will appreciate it and the W.C. members who wrote the pieces you choose to send will appreciate it as well. You can also send friends and family specially-selected C-notes and not have to worry that they're going to be bombarded with spam afterward. There's always a unique assortment of C-notes favailable here for just about any occasion, especially for holidays.

*Note1* If you have a hobby that you'd like to share with others or get others interested in by helping to teach them about it, you can create a series of writings and link them in a message forum. In the forum, you can answer questions and offer suggestions, ideas and resources. You can also ask members for suggestions, ideas and resources that you might not otherwise think of or find.

*Note1* There are several writing, grammar and punctuation resources here (from static items to message forums) to assist your children in becoming better writers. Even if they have no interest or no intention of becoming a writer, the info and extra support will help with the everyday necessary task of writing. Encourage them to enter contests, or to write stories and poems for themselves following some of the contests' guidelines.

*Note1* You can also bond with your children by finding and sharing items throughout the site, such as Crossword Puzzles and Word Searches. Or by creating a campfire where they take part in making additions. Get their friends and their friends' parents involved and make it a local, community campfire.

*Note1* You can create polls and surveys and let them become continuing "water cooler" conversations at work. ("Do you know what percent doesn't believe (or does believe) that acid rain is a real problem?") The topics for having polls or surveys are endless.    Or you can invite co-workers to a Campfire Creative or trivia quest through the use of an In and Out item (during coffee breaks, of course *Bigsmile*).

*Note1* You can have a group and forum for everything from church group recipes or Bible study, to political affiliation goals and events planning...from sharing an interest in RPG games, to country music or astrology...or from discussing the latest news, to searching for unusual collectibles. And anything in between.

*Note1* While you're traveling the internet, sign guestbooks on sites that you've enjoyed finding. Let the owner of the site know that you enjoyed your visit and invite them to stop by your portfolio here.

This is just a sampling of ideas, but as you can see, there are a number of ways to bring your online and offline life to your Writing.Com portfolio. In fact, you can make your port a very "happening" place to be. *Smile*
