Dear readers of all things scary, I am NaNoNette and will be your guest editor for this issue.
The Halloween season is filled with so many scary things, it seems it's trying to kill all things fun that make us laugh. Or is it really?
Why would anyone go to an amusement park where college students dressed up as zombies chase the visitors around? For fun!
Why would anyone get on a dark-coaster ride where a person in an ape suit will hitch a ride on the cart and rub yucky plastic-fur gloves over their face? For fun!
As you write fall and Halloween comedies, remember that many people really like to have the living daylights scared out of them. It is all in good fun when you find out it was just a joke. Real life feels easier and less frightening after reading about an imaginary scary thing. Point in case, I recently watched the first Alien movie, which was supposed to be scary at the time.
It was one of most comedic movies I've seen in a while.
A friend let his under 13-years-old daughters watch the old Friday the 13th movie (on October, Friday the 13th). What did they say? "It was funny."
Okay, so this teaches us one thing: comedy doesn't have to be light and fluffy. The campy over the top scary movies of past decades elicit mirth and laughter nowadays.
As you ponder the plot of your next comedy story, don't forget to scare your readers until they laugh.
