Letter from the editor

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) just knocked on your door and as much as you want to write the first draft of a novel you haven't prepared enough, you haven't participated in the much valued OctoPrep and now the time for that is up, the clock ticking. What do you do?!

First off, you need to remember that it's never too late to get started. Okay, so you haven't worked out your idea for the story you wish to write. You haven't, no matter your good intentions, had the time to keep up with it. November 1st is here and your panic button is screaming! You are freaking out. You feel like giving up.

No!

Let's make one thing clear. Giving up is not an option. You have to keep going no matter what. So you don't have anything prepared and fear that down the road you'll lose track of where the story should go, meaning, it'll go into oblivion without an end in sight.

The nice part about OctoPrep as in "October Novel Prep ChallengeOpen in new Window., is that you can always visit the calendar and see what each day required, implement the most important parts which might work for your story, work with it while writing your story. Yes, it means you might do a bit of double time here and there, but if you really are sent on writing seriously and keeping up with your story then you must have something concrete to work with.

Even the Prep and all that hard work you might have done isn't set in stone. It's there to help you along the way, to guide you if the story stalls. With that said, you'll realize that you have a bit more wiggle room to work with your story while still trying to keep things intact.

So! Should you really worry if you haven't participated in the Prep? No, you shouldn't. You should do your best and scribble as many notes as possible that will help you down the road. Don't give up, but keep on tying along! And if you haven't, sing up for "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon GroupOpen in new Window. and join in the fun. *Wink*

'Til next time!
