Letter from the editor

Dear Reader,

In this letter, I just want to share my happiness!

I live in India, and usually, ordering things from the WDC shop is difficult -- shipping charges amount to too much. Earlier this year, Just an Ordinary Boo! told me she's going to the USA, and would be willing to bring back anything I needed from the WDC shop. The items could be shipped to her US address.

At that time, I didn't have enough Gift Points to order anything, so I declined. Jyo went off on her trip. Then -- the official contest results were announced, and I had snagged the third place. For me, it meant one thing -- enough GPs to order a WDC t-shirt! I pinged Jyo -- 'is the offer still open?' Back came the response - 'yes'. She ordered the shirt, I sent her GPs. A few days later, a picture -- the unopened package as it arrived, and the shirt, after I asked her to open it.

MY WDC T-SHIRT! Black, long-sleeve. There it was.

On Nov. 30, Jyo returned to Bangalore (India), and on Dec. 1, I was at her house, drinking tea, exchanging news ... and picking up my shirt! What bliss. I tried it on, it fitted perfectly. On Dec. 3, I wore it to an event I attended and got a couple of compliments.

The happiness I feel for this t-shirt is something that I've probably never felt before.

Because I earned this t-shirt with my writing.

I crafted a good story, I incorporated the changes that reviewers suggested, I checked and re-checked that I had followed all the rules, I proofread ... and now I have a lovely t-shirt to show for it!

And that is the beauty of being able to use Gift Points, earned with your writing, to pay for stuff -- not only online stuff, like Memberships, Merit Badges and Awardicons, but real stuff that you can use out in the world and have people see three-dimensional. (You know what I mean!)

For me, it made the reward more tangible. I always feel warm and fuzzy when I write well and someone gives me a good review ... but to have something solid, that you can hold, that you can flaunt (yes FLAUNT!) because you worked hard on giving a story the right shape just takes it to another level.

Ditto with physical Merit Badges. I put those on my hats, and love it when I'm outdoors somewhere and someone says, 'Oh, nice badge!' and then I can give them a long explanation of WDC and the contest I won the badge on! *Bigsmile* *Whistle*.

Yes, physical items bought with gift points, as a direct result of writing well, are very very special. A gift by authors, for authors.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks for a beautiful NL, *Heart* Sonali.
Although I don't write to unburden or dump on others, something somewhere shows up that points to a grief or a hidden frustration of some kind during the process of writing, which means any kind of writing I do, lightens me up. *Smile*

Sonali, what a great newsletter! I wrote a poem about my mum's breast cancer not long after joining because I didn't know how to actually think/talk about it (and I'm so not a poet, but a poem seemed the best medium). I've still never shown it to mum, even though we're four years down the track! "AmazonOpen in new Window.

You wrote a wonderful article. Writing is cathartic. One cannot keep toxic voices grumbling behind the brain. Set those voices to paper. I recently encountered an older woman at the pharmacy, she was not having a good day and explained why, then apologized for her rant. I smiled, wished her well and suggested she start writing a journal to get those toxic thoughts out of her head.

Agreed! 100% agreed! I think this should fall under the writer's gospel truth. Everything that I write, comes from somewhere within. Whether it is a challenge. But, some of my best writings have come at a time when I needed to think through everything. Or acknowledge it in some way. My family knows I write, but they do not know everything that I write. So, for me, WDC is like a family that I can comfortably share what I write. It allows me to give and get back. To share my ideas and fears. And, everyone gives me challenges. Yesterday, I had praise on a short story like I have never gotten. Today, I tried my hand at another. This family gives encouragement to express myself. And that, is priceless!

Awesome newsletter *Cool* *Heart*

Received on Facebook, in response to: "Do you write to get it off your chest?"

Glory P Yes, while the thought of ideas usually passing through my mind rather quickly, some of them stay and nag me as if saying to express them as soon as possible. Imagine how relieved and satisfied I am when I let them out.

Carla Kelley Levesque Frequently.

Shà Martin Yes

Doug Roberts-Author Yes.

Nancy Snell Yes, certainly!
