Setting Up Activities
Before starting any activity, take a few minutes to determine your goals. Is it a seasonal or holiday activity that you want to host to meet new members? Is it an activity to raise gift points for yourself or a group? Do you love a certain genre and want to read more stories in that genre? There are tons of reasons, know yours.
The next thing you need to determine is how long to run it and how any people are needed to make it a successful activity. Square dancing with three people is...not fun. The point here is once it is set up, do you have gift points for not only the possible rewards or prizes, but also some points to promote your activity. If you're active on the site, as some group leaders to help you promote your activity. If the activity is complicated, get friends to help before you start and clearly define their role in the activity.
Timing! Timing is important. Activities need participation, so allow time for members to find your activity, but also time for them to commit to the fun. This includes you, don't start your activity the day before you leave for a vacation. You need to be available to answer emails and questions on a timely basis. Also, don't drag an activity on too long, people will forget they're in it or lose interest. On the other hand, don't flood the participants with sixteen emails a day with updates. Clearly state on the activity page how often you will update. This not only reminds members of the activity, but it shows the members it is still active and growing. If the activity peters out and has no interest, close it and analyze what needs to be changed.
Most of all, have fun! I hope this newsletter gives some helpful hints and see you next month!

You'll notice that some of the tasks are very basic. If you're having a difficult mental health month, doing some of these simple tasks will create a feeling of productivity during those dark times. One of the most frustrating things to me is when I want to do something on WDC, but I end up just staring at the newsfeed for a while and then logging out. The MHWA Monthly Mental Health Challenge tasks will help you accomplish things throughout the month.

Why do you write?

A drabble is a short work of fiction of around one hundred words in length.
This will be an on-going monthly contest. Every month I will post the 'cover art' from one of those great, old pulp magazines, and you will write a short story, of say, no more than a 1000 words, that best describes that cover. Some of them will already have titles which you can choose to use or just make up your own from the inspiring art work. Write whatever you want in whatever genre you like, as long as it pertains to the monthly cover image.
This is an emotion-driven contest. We want to feel something for your characters. Make that connection!
Win big! Enter this daily contest!
