About This Newsletter

Hello, everyone. I am ~ Santa Sisco ~ Author IconMail Icon. I'm one of the three permanent editors of the Noticing Newbies newsletter.

I aim to ensure you have a smooth transition into the site. I still remember my first day here. "Bitem?" Do I have to be a computer programmer to put my writing on here? *Laugh* Forty-eight hours later, I realized it was a case of easy when you know how!. My biggest mistake when I joined was that I didn't take the time to read the "Writing.Com 101Open in new Window.. I was excited and wanted to do everything the same day. Sound familiar? *Smile*
You will see my contributions every four weeks, and I hope they help you with using this great site.

My fellow permanent editors are Brooke Author IconMail Icon and Sara♥Jean Author IconMail Icon.

Letter from the editor

I have received several emails from newbies over the past few months, and they all had one thing in common; asking how to post a message in a forum. So let’s see if I can explain in a way a technophobe could understand. *Bigsmile*

First of all, you have to find a forum you want to post a message to. I recommend you use the "Noticing NewbiesOpen in new Window. forum as it is there for you to introduce yourself to the WDC community.

A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com!

When you click on the link, you will be taken to the forum’s main page where the body of the forum will give information about what the forum is for and any relevant information, including any forum rules. Only newbies can make a post in this forum, and the established members, or newbies, can reply to the posts you make. I would read a few messages, so you have an idea of what other newbies are writing in their introductions. This forum has a content rating "ASR" so ensure your post complies with this rating. Check the following link if you don't know about our rating system. "Content Rating System (CRS)Open in new Window.

Making a post:

Scroll down to where the messages begin. Above the messages, you will see a clickable link to “Post a new Message” – click on it! You are now looking at the message box for you to write your post.

Type the title of your post in the subject box. Something similar to, “Hello everyone.” Or “I’m new here.”

Next, click in the message box to start typing your introduction. You can make this as long or short as you wish to, and remember this is probably the first contact you will make on WDC, so try to make it relevant to what you are hoping to get from being a member here. *Smile*
When you have written your introduction, scroll down to the post options. You will see three option button: Submit Post, Preview Post, and Spell Check.

"Submit Post" will post your message as it is. (Including any errors/spelling mistakes.)
"Preview Post" will show you how your message will look when posted. Warning: Your message has not been posted. This is only a preview. Scroll down to the bottom of the message and click on the "Submit Post" button if you are happy with it. If you want to make any changes, just click on the "Edit Post" button.
At any stage, you can also use the "Spell check" button if you want to check your spelling.

You have now made your first forum post! *Bigsmile* All forums are made the same, so it is unlikely you will have a problem posting a message in any other forum you have access to.

Making a reply:

When you have clicked on a message in the forum, you will see a small box below the post with the words, "Post a Reply..." Click on those words and a message box will appear. The box is the same as you used to post a message, with the Subject/title box missing as this has already been decided by the original poster.

I recommend You make the "Noticing NewbiesOpen in new Window. a favorite so you can easily find it again. You can find out how to do that in my previous newsletter. "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (September 14, 2016)Open in new Window.

Mary Ann MCPhedran Author IconMail Icon commented:

"Hi and thank you for inviting me to give feed back. RESOLUTIONS are usually broken in the first couple of months after you start, but this year I want to change a little of my vocabulary, but I don't want to lose the simplicity of the writing of my poems. I thought I would make my resolution in using two words I have never written before and use them effectively each day So day 0ne here is the first Thank you I enjoyed reading your newsletter the topics were abundant and a joy to read."

Thank you for your comments, Mary. I think you have excellent use of a resolution this year. Next year I might run a short competition for the best writing-related New Year’s Resolution. We could all benefit from some cool ideas like yours! *Cool* *Bigsmile*
