Letter from the editor

I've had a personal debate with myself when it came to this particular newsletter - what should be the subject, to be exact - was my dilemma. As much as I love the buzz on the site, the constant activities, the contests, all the new things popping up left and right, I thought that time management should be something to consider. Then again, I'm terrible at managing my time so telling you how to manage it yourself wouldn't be great advice.

Instead, I want to talk to you about choosing yourself over everything else that's going on in your life, making time for you and for the things you enjoy doing. Let's face it. We all get sidetracked more often than we'd like to admit. That procrastination factor is present in each and every writer's life. That quote: "I'm writing a book. I've got the pages numbered."? I've got that down to a science! But then I look at it and leave it because it feels like half the work is done. *Laugh*

In the past year, I haven't been good to myself, haven't been honest with myself, and maybe you can relate to it. I've always dreamed about writing, stringing words together - even though I'm not a great writer - for my own enjoyment. It never bothered me if someone didn't agree with my writing, or if they didn't like it, even if they tried to change the entire thing using their own voice, their own style. That was fine with me. I seldom change poetry unless it's grammar related, because it's what I felt at that moment and changing it is like an impossible task.

Then, the time came where I neglected my own writing. My personal enjoyment. I didn't care much about reading either. All my hobbies went by the wayside while I thought I was discovering myself, catching up with life, keeping things on track. Until I had a WdC friend come visit me. It wasn't was she said that made me sit back and take a hard look at my life, it was more of a reminder that no matter what I do or don't do, Writing.com is still my home and sooner or later, I have to get back. For my own sake.

So, in the past few weeks that I've considered myself back - and trust me, it was harder than I thought to come back and jump into the water - I've felt like my life has purpose again. The decision to put myself first, to do what I enjoy most, became rather simple.

As I mentioned before, we all forget, get sidetracked, lose inspiration, and slowly drift away in the opposite direction, without even realizing it. Let's hope it's not too late. Remember that, no matter what or who or where, you need to make time for yourself. It doesn't matter what's going on in your life, you need an hour to yourself for yourself. You shouldn't feel guilty about it. You deserve it. Time management isn't important as long as you can set aside some of it to do what you truly love.

No one can make you happy but yourself. You alone are responsible for your own happiness. Think about what brings you joy in your life and make sure you remember to stick with it. It may be hard at times but don't they always say 'happy wife, happy life'? Well, I know that I'm working on it and I must say that even thinking about my own happiness things have started to change for the better. How about you?

'Til next time!
